Game: What Color is Oprah Today?

Recommended Posts

Bored? I'll proudly go where others won't by asking if anyone else caught Oprah's political push towards Obama with that ridiculous rise & fall (using Marthin Luther King's famous voice inflection as in his, I've Got A Dream?) Why does that woman switch personalities like a chameleon depending on her audience? On her show she sounds white, yet when she's supporting a black president to her black audience she sounds like a Louisiana preacher?

No, this isn't a racist statement, it's an observation. Word to Oprah: Decide who you are and be proud, not fickle.

I tend to agree. Not being an American, I dont share the Oprah love. She gives me the royal sh%ts to be honest.

I saw bits of it and thought it was all very staged.

Eh, it's politics, of course it's staged. She's not my favorite person, but I think she does quite a bit of good. Well, better than most of the other talk show hosts, at least.

here is a funny one with Hillary Clinton and her fake accent she used to try and appease a black southern audience.

I love all the good Oprah does but I do admit I can't stand her turn on/turn off drawl. Or how she always chews food and talks at the same time. Swallow, then talk, please! And Gale does it too. Drives me nutso.

I was just asking my husband today what he thinks of that! I wonder if she is for obama only because he is black or if she really likes his policies?

What does "sounds white" mean?....I thought "white" was a color.

By "white" do you mean that she uses correct grammer? Can I infer that "blacks it up" means that she uses incorrect grammar? Once again, I thought "black" was a color.

I don't even know why I clicked on this thread. I had a feeling it was going to be something ignorant. What is talking white? talking black? There is definitely some real ignorance in this thread. And no I am not defending Oprah b/c I am black. I am speaking up against ignorance. Just b/c Oprah supports Obama doesn't mean she's doing it b/c he's black. I can bet none of us in this thread know Oprah. So, does Elizabeth Hasslebitch support Bush b/c he's white.

And I guess my lack of ebonics means I am typing white. That's some real bullshit. And let me follow suit, I'm not racist by the way.

And your point is? I guarantee decent, intelligent people of any race would be offended.

I don't know what race anyone is in this thread unless they have a picture. How do you know who's black and white? I should call one of my white friends and ask them. For all I know I am the only black person in this thread and if so your point is mute.

I hope I didn't sound racist, because I am far from it. I just was surprised when I heard her sound racist. I could have misinterpreted it, but the use of the word whitey was out of character so it really got my attention.

Maybe I am sexist - Go Hillary!

Honestly, this thread isn't very shocking. It doesn't change my opinion of the majority. I know that all of the majority aren't bad. There are ignorant people of all races.

Only you know if you are racist. And Oprah can be prejudice, but she can't be a racist. Half of the comments you said, I watched those shows and didn't hear them. The only comment I remember was the one about her grandmother wanting her to grow up and work for white people b/c they gave away good clothes. I don't remember the good clothes comment, but that part doesn't matter. Oprah grow up during the 50s/60s. 99.9% of the houses being cleaned in the south were white. I think it's great that her aspiration was not to clean up after white people.

How was the Legend's ball falsely named? It was Oprah's ball. If it was my ball I could invite who I wanted to call it what I wanted. If you want to throw a party where you only invited whites, you can. People do that everyday.

Never heard the George Bush hates black people thing either, are you sure that wasn't Kanye West? Either way, you are going to have to be mad at a lot of people b/c they aren't alone.

It would take me all day to point out all the racist comments I hear on tv. But that's pointless.

Skyblu, I don't think the thread is racist but perhaps some of what's being said in response? It's about pretending to be something you're not, whether white or black. Regardless of skin color, Oprah's voice and mannerisms change depending on the color of people SHE is around. I'm not making a racist statent but rather pointing out how Oprah herself is playing her Race card to gain political momentum. Saying she's pumping up Obama just because he's black would be the stame if she was pumping up Hilary just because Hilary is a woman. This wasn't started as a racist thread but maybe some of the comments are.

I deleted my thread because it obviously didn't make the points I intended to.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
