Anesthesia

Does anybody else break out in fever and bad chills the night after surgery? This has happened after every surgery I've ever had. Not just the Band related ones, but any time I've gone through semi-major procedures.

Last week, after port removal, I had a bad run of the shakes that were so violent I thought I might go into seizure. It only lasted a minute or so, but my chest gets to shaking so bad with chills that I wonder if anyone else did this. I always seem to sweat it out when I sleep that night and am better by morning, but when I get up to go potty in the middle of the night I have another episode - just can't get warm.

My secretary just had an emergency appendectomy and thought she was getting the flu the night after her surgery, she couldn't stop shaking and had to stay an extra day due to the fever.

Yep, that sounds like me. Did they figure anything out? I had a little more of the same type of fever & sweats last night. I wonder if it has something to do with pain medication, or shock from the pain. I was in horrible pain last night, like my girl parts are gonna explode (low and left.) Today the pain finally migrated to under my belly button, so I wonder if that's an eggy trying to get through all the drugs and swelling since my cycle starts on or around the 5th.

Dr. Billy answered this question for me. He said it's because during surgery, I was on a ventilator that breathed for me. When they remove the ventilator, my lungs have to work on their own. But I never seem to breathe well after surgery. I tend to breathe shallow. They always give me the little machine to exercise my lungs, and I use it. But I need to use it more and take deep breaths both in and out to get my lungs working again. This time was even worse cuz it hurt my incision to breathe.

to my oldest child too. He always has to stay when they do little same day procedures. They always tell us it will be 2 hours- but we always have to stay. (He is 4 years old). This does not happen to my little girl though)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
