Wanting to try to eat

nope. No tortillas at 3.5 weeks out. Refried Beans and cheese should be OK, though.

No! You’ve gone through too much pre op, all the clearances, recovery itself to break plan. Follow your teams plan. You’ll get there at some point but not yet!

I always feel awkward when answering these. Most of the time I type all this out then don’t send it. But I’m having one of those days where I don’t care about giving perfect advice or worry about upsetting someone so here it is.
Simple and best answer: follow your plan. Realistic talking to a human answer: yeah you should be fine to have a little nibble. One word of caution, be self aware. That means know yourself enough to know if this little cheat will lead to another. Some people can handle it, some can’t. If you don’t know where you fall on that spectrum I would be very cautious. None of us are perfect but that doesn’t mean don’t try to be perfect with the plan.
Me? I didn’t like my plan so I found one that fit what I wanted to eat. I’m not assuming my doctor is the be-all-end-all best doctor in the world and all the other doctors who have different post op plans are idiots. I found one that listed cottage cheese early and said “hell yah I like cottage cheese” and switched. I didn’t die, I was very successful with my weight loss. At four weeks I was told to try anything I wanted and if it didn’t agree with me I’d know it. Keep the portion sizes in check though. I believe that is the most important advice I can give. Love the restriction, don’t abuse it.

Refried Beans, lowfat cheese, salsa.....I ate them all at 3.5 weeks.

I did not eat tortillas in weight loss phase.

The initial restricted diet is to aid your healing. Your external incisions may look fine but internally you’re still healing - there’s a decent size wound inside you. Plus how you digest food has changed somewhat.

Yes, there are different plans out there but they have a lot of basic similarities: puréed foods are puréed & sloppy, soft foods are soft & moist, allowed foods are nutritionally dense & high in Protein. Processed flour carbs are not allowed because they spike your blood sugars & insulin, often swell in your tummy & are considered empty calories. (In time, you’ll be encouraged to add multi or whole grains into your diet.) Because you’re eating so little, you need to ensure everything you eat is nutrient dense.

Generally it’s safer to follow your surgeon’s plan. However, you may not be able to tolerate some of the foods on your plan. Ask your dietician, or even this forum, for alternatives.

Good luck.

I am 9 weeks out and faced this issue a few weeks in, my solution was to put some of the shredded chicken in my food processor a.x use the enchilada sauce as a liquid just enough to make it the right consistency. You may try this and add a little cheese to curb your craving. [emoji6] Good luck

WOW by the Grace of God 17 years ago I went to Mexico and had a lap band put on for weight loss and my waist was 64 inches and That’s more than 5 foot around and 18 stone my weight was 375 pounds. Today I went shopping for not sweats and I succeeded. I found pants and a shirt at an awesome price at Burlington by the way. But the real story here is, today. My waist is 45 inches and my weight is 260. Both incredible numbers but think about this. My waist is almost 20 inches smaller around Wow that’s a brain wrecker. Still, I love my band I even celebrate it’s birthday 10-26-06 FYI-it’s kind of like choking yourself, and never letting go. And trying to eat. lol Life is good

Hi all! I’m Heidi, a Canadian ex-Pat living in Sydney, Australia. I’m doing this surgery because my mom died 10 years ago from obesity, she lived her own 600lbs life.  So at 116kg, it’s time to make sure my daughters don’t lose their mom to obesity.
