Should I feel different

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric sleeve 6/4/21. So far I don’t really feel different. I am pushing to get the Protein Shakes and 64 oz of liquid in a day just because that’s a lot for me even before surgery. But I don’t really feel any different. I have lost lbs, but I’m afraid when I can eat food again the lbs will come right back. I also haven’t had a BM (tmi) since the day before my surgery. Is this normal?

Constipation is very common. Ask your surgeon's office for remedies that are safe for you.

As far as fears, anticipation, etc... It really doesn't hurt to see a bariatric therapist during this time of transition. It's the one thing I don't see mentioned enough. The surgery doesn't fix your head and the issues that caused the disordered eating...and it's essential to work on a strategy to deal with them.

Wishing you the very best. Congrats on your surgery!

I wouldn't worry too much. Some people feel internal pain after surgery, while others do not. Many people don't start to feel the restriction until they get to at least the soft foods stage. liquids are digested pretty quickly even in a person with a normal gastric system, and Water basically flows right through your stomach if it starts out empty. It's not until you start eating more solid food, which stays in your stomach longer, that you will start to really feel the restriction. They really did take out 3/4 of your stomach. I guarantee you're going to feel the difference at some point.

As for the BM, yes, that's totally normal. I'm assuming you were on liquids for at least 2 days before surgery, right? So you haven't eaten any solid food in 8 days. There's just not much in your digestive system to come out. Even now, 15 months after surgery, I only have a BM about every 2 days just because I eat much less.

Worrying that it's not going to work is very common. But try not to let it get to you. WLS is pretty darn effective.

I didn’t feel any different and didn’t really even feel restriction until I got to soft foods. It’s not uncommon to sorta feel like now what. According to the nurse practitioner Some people even have a sort of post partum depression after doing all we go through before the surgery and you wake up afterwards and feel pretty much the same.

I never felt any different. Part of me wondered if they'd even done the surgery! I did feel some restriction once I moved to regular foods, though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
