Really struggling- lap band to sleeve

Recommended Posts

Last Thursday I had my lap band removed (put in 2008) because of complications with reflux. My doctor suggested switching to the sleeve and I agreed. However, now I’m really questioning if this was the right thing.

I’ve been re- hospitalized since surgery after not being able to keep anything down. I’ve been back home since yesterday afternoon and I’m still battling the constant feeling of fullness and have been unable to drink much more than a few sips of my Protein Shakes daily.

Has anyone experienced removal and switch to sleeve same day? Someone please tell me it gets better ☹️

I’m so sorry. I went through this too but I didn’t have the lap band. but your surgeon should have told you the sleeve only makes the reflux worse. My surgeon did and suggested a revision to bypass instead because of my severe GERD.

I did removal of lap band and switch to sleeve on the same day due to esophagus problems. It was outpatient and it went very smooth. Having said that, after the sleeve, a year later, I developed severe gerd (which I didn't have before) and now they want to do a bypass. If you have gerd already, then maybe having a sleeve is not the best way to go.

Sorry you're having such a rough post op period! I had my band/port removed and converted to the sleeve 5/20/21. I really underestimated the severity of the surgery. I am almost 5 weeks out and I can say I feel MUCH better now. I did not anticipate the length of recovery after this surgery. My band surgery was so easy but this was another story. What got me through was adding a couple scoops of unflavored Protein Powder to Water with crystal light and just sipping through the day.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
