1 stone is 14 lbs

Recommended Posts

Okay, not the rock in my back yard...we have some Englanders and others from the far away lands where they measure weight in stone. I know I'm not the only one wondering so I googled and found out that 1 stone is 14 pounds; so when Bright complains that she's still bloody 18 stone, she's 252lbs, give or take a few. Hope that helps!

Thanks for translating me Kathy! Here in Europe, The World we always measure weight in stone (not stoneS, weirdly!) or kilos - in fact everything is pretty much metric here too except for body weight - so losing a stone (14lbs) is considered a huge achievement! When I was in Weight Watchers, they give you a little glass stone every time you lose a stone - see what they did there!!! I was so hungry I nearly ate them (only ever got 3!)

But now, funnily enough, I think in pounds since I do most of my weight talking here on Lapband Talk or Spotlight - my scales is set to pounds not stone, and my diary/charts are in pounds too - I tell people here I'm down 80lbs from my highest ever - they go "ooooh wow.............em.......what's that mean in stone?" So I go, almost 6 stone, and then get the appreciation!!!

Also want to make clear that i'm IRISH not ENGLISH, in case that wasn't clear from Kathy's post! Top of the morning to ye....

Yes, I wasn't sure if "bloody" was an Irish thing, but I've watched enough bad American TV to know it is at least English, which over here, is simply, over there somewhere. But you are expanding my horizons! and I thank you. I did pick up on the "stone", not "stones", and 8 stone is a hundred weight, 20 hundred weight is one ton, which is also 2240 lbs, exactly what it is in the US. WOW! It was fun exploring, thanks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
