Weight loss in the first 2 months

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon!

Quick question....about how much weight did you lose in the first 2 months post surgery?

I have an important event that I bought a dress for.

Thank you for your time!

2-week pre op diet: -11 lbs

Month 1: -21 lbs

Month 2: -17 lbs

(slowed to quite a bit after that)

P.S. background deets: 235 lbs at start of 2 week pre op diet; 5’2” female, 45 yrs old at time of surgery.

rate of weight loss is so different between people depending on so many factors that I don't know that any of this will really help you, since you don't know if you'll be a faster or slower loser, BUT...

I lost 16 lbs in month 1 and 12 lbs in month 2. So 28 lbs altogether.

DANG GIRL!! 49 lbs in 2.5 months! That is crazy. I am down 45 lbs in 2 months and 3 weeks including pre op diet. You have got me beat!

The first two months were exceptions...it all really averages out in the end! From months 3-7, my monthly average loss was ~11lbs (lost from a high of 13lb/month to a low of 9lbs/month, depending on the month)

I get how we sometimes fixate on the speed of loss (I mean, there IS a bit of thrill in getting closer to goal, I'm not denying that), but really, for those that stay on their respective plans, we all end up at the same place eventually. Does it really matter if it takes 6 months or 2 years? Its a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

Good Luck! ❤️, sounds like you'll do great.

I'm exactly 8 weeks tomorrow. Down 32lbs since surgery + 7lbs pre-op for a total of 39lbs. Sounds like you are trying to guess how that dress will fit. I caution you to maybe have backup plans because in addition to the variable weight loss numbers, that weight loss will also look different on different people. At 5'9" and 38lbs lost, and I still wear the same size 14 pants and XL top, it just fits a lot better. Also "the girls" have deflated from a 40F to a 38DD. Hope that helps!

Good point. I am much shorter, at 5'2", and a 39 lbs weight loss was a few sizes down down in my case.

I forgot to ask: are you trying to fit into it, or stay into it?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
