Pre-Opt Liquid Diet (for cheaters)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been on a clear liquid diet now for 5 days. My surgery is Dec. 10th (2 more days). I have stuck to the diet most of the time, but the last couple nights I've had to have some Protein, so I've had a can of tuna with mayo. How bad is that?! Tonight I'm working some overtime and they pay for my dinner. I'm so craving a ribeye sandwhich. :hungry: How screwed would I be if I had one? Is my doctor going to notice? I've been able to pass up food and avoid it all week, but this sandwhich is my weakness. Did anyone else cheat on their liquid diet? :help:

Charly

Well, you can do anything you want.

But if you don't stick to the liquid diet, ONE DAY of messing up screws the whole process up.

You're shrinking your liver down and getting rid of some of the fat in your body. If your liver doesn't shrink, it can be too heavy and instead of a laproscopic surgery (little incisions), they will have to cut you from breast to pubes..and that has a long healing time and higher risks of infections.

Depends on how bad you want to do it laproscopically.

For your sake, please stick to the liquid diet. This too shall pass.

I say wait the two days. It's well worth it. Your doctor wouldn't tell you to do it if it isn't needed. Almost there! Stay strong!

Thanks for all your comments. I will admit that I did have the sandwhich. I went in for Surgery on Dec. 10th and the surgery was a success. I'm down 23 lbs since I started the liquid diet on Dec. 3rd. (13 since Dec. 10th). Now I know I cannot cheat because of the health risk involved. I'm on full liquids now and it's wonderful. Good luck to you all!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
