1 week post-op I feel very weak and out of breath

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, one week out from lap band revision to sleeve. I'm doing ok pain-wise, but I'm just so weak and even getting up off the couch to walk across the room makes me feel like I've sprinted. I was checked by my doctor and spent the day in the ER doing cat scans for blood clots, EKG, blood work. Everything was normal. But I am definitely not. I'm fine if I'm sitting on the couch, but moving around, even to prepare the small meals has got me exhausted. Is this normal? Is it due to taking in so few calories? What am I doing wrong? Yes, I'm taking my Vitamins and meeting Protein and mostly meeting liquids goals. I'm on Lovenox as a preventative for blood clots.

If you had your gallbladder or appendix taken out - would you still wonder about having no energy and feeling exhausted one week after surgery?

Do you have any pain in your left shoulder/ neck area? I ask because 10 days after my surgery I was feeling the way you describe, along with pain in my shoulder. It turned out I had a leak in my sleeve and I've had a heck of a road since then. I previously had a lap band also, although mine was removed in 2015.
I hope you don't have a leak, but if you do it's a serious condition. Best wishes!

I don't have intense pain in my left shoulder, but I do feel it every once in a while. I used to have pain there when I was overfull with my lapband. What were your other symptoms of leak? How did you know?

Thanks @summerset You are totally right. I need to be more patient.

UPDATE: I think I am actually feeling better today. I was able to eat more calories yesterday and I think that helped immensely.

Glad to see you're feeling better! My symptoms were fatigue, some shortness of breath, shoulder pain and low grade fever.

If you could share, what did they do about it? How bad was your pain? I've been taking my temp daily out of paranoia and so far so good. I do feel even better today, thankfully, but I'm no where near 100% again.

It can take several weeks before you feel like "normal" again.

After genreal anesthesia (I had several in my life so far) it always took me about three weeks to recovery from the fatigue.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
