Hi @MissAlexandra! Are you in surgery today too? This is such a good place for reassurance! Hearing that folks are managing, even in the early stages just after surgery, and how they’ve benefited in the long run has been really helpful in calming my fear.

This part, the waiting, is scary. I’ve been doing some mindfulness stuff where I ask myself *what* I’m feeling, and then use a “making space” technique. Where I notice and the ask myself if I can make space for the feeling to be there, (even if I don’t like it!).
Sometimes I will say what I’m feeling afraid of *specifically* out loud. And see if it feels true or rational? But try and accept it either way.

Apologies for unsolicited advice! And I hope good things and calm feelings for you!

Thank you everyone so much for the positive messages and wishes! The first 24 hours were honestly kind of brutal. I was incredibly nauseous and just kept dry heaving and throwing up. I was afraid I was going to injure my sites or my stomach. The hospital staff was incredible though and tried all sorts of different medicines to help me out.
I came home the next day and was dry heaving once, but I haven’t again. I’ve been doing my best to get in all of my Water, I’ve been walking a few times a day and doing the breathing exercises.
The only issue I have now is I’m nervous to move onto drinking broth or Protein water as I’m worried that the bold flavors might make me nauseous again... I think I just need to get over the fear of that happening again. Other than that, my biggest incision site is kind of sore, but I have just been icing it. Hopefully the worst is past me, and I’m still so grateful to have done it!

Everyday is easier than the one before. Just remember that the end justifies it. You got this!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
