Pre-op plans vary significantly. Some surgeons require a two week (or more) program regardless of the personal circumstances of the person. Other surgeons will tailor their pre op program to the person, Some surgeons don't do a pre-op plan regardless, just a typical pre surgery plan which would apply regardless of the surgery.

I imagine your pre-op plan for one day would be just fluids?

It may be that our surgeon doesn't do a typical WLS pre-op plan or based on your personal circumsances a pre-op weight loss diet (to lose weight or shrink liver) is not required.

May be worth your while to talk to your surgeon or their staff about your confusion, they would be able to explain to you better than we could why the surgeon has given you the pre op plan of one day only.

Lucky you! I had a 2-week pre-op diet. The first week was 3 Protein Shakes plus one small meal per day, and the second week was just 4 Protein shakes per day. It was rough! But yes, pre-op diets vary a lot, and some surgeons don't even require them (except for the last day before surgery, like yours). The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver to make it easier for the surgeon to access your stomach. Some surgeons go on a case-by-case basis, so if your BMI is on the lower end (~40) and/or you don't carry a lot of weight in the midsection, the surgeon may not think it is necessary. Some surgeons are comfortable working around the liver even if it hasn't shrunk.

The bottom line is, your surgeon knows what he or she is doing, so as long as you follow your surgeon's instructions, you should be fine.

count yourself as one of the lucky ones. Most of us have to go through a grueling week or two, but some surgeons don't require one at all.

I only had a day before diet along with a bowel prep (like for a colonoscopy) which is a bit of overkill for a VSG, but quite appropriate for a DS like my wife had with the same practice. Much rather have that than the multi-week liquid things that some practices impose.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
