4 days away from surgery and am having second thoughts

Recommended Posts

Hi friends,

I’ve spoken to a few people who’ve gotten VSG and like everyone they just regret they didn’t do it sooner. I’m just curious bom everyone experience.

How long until I can eat a piece of grilled chicken? I’m a big BBQ guy so this is my season. I know I’m going to go through the surgery but just curious, how long did you guys wait for a piece of Protein Like fish, steak, or chicken.

Hoping these negative thoughts go away. I’m on day 6 of my liquid diet and I’m having cravings.

Thanks
Mark

I can’t remember how long it was until I ate chicken. But you won’t have an appetite at all so you won’t be missing it like you think you will. But yes you will def get bk to eating those things but will just get full on much smaller portions.
Hang in there. Know that this pre op diet is important and what helps your surgeon see the area he needs to for your surgery. You can do this!! Keep focused on the prize. Keep us posted too on your journey! YOU GOT THIS😊

If I remember correctly I was cleared to eat (well chewed) meat at around 4 weeks. However, I was only able to eat very small amounts to at first. Now at 19 months post op I can eat 3-5 ounces, depending on what meat it is. Ground beef and steak, and fish I can do about 5. chicken about 4, and pork 3 max. Hang in there-the things I was really worried about missing I didn’t miss at all. I was sure it would be torture to live without my Coke Zero but from day one post op I completely lost my taste for it. Like you mentioned, my only regret is not doing the surgery sooner.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
