Hi Everyone,

I'm new here too :). I was looking for an online support community, and this looks like a great place to be. My surgery date is 4/13. So far I have the Protein 2o drinks.. 15g of protein. I also got some bariatric Vitamins on the recommendation of a friend.

My doc only requires a 3 day pre op liquid diet.. but I was thinking about starting early and making it a 5 day.

Best things people told me to bring were pajama pants (forget a robe cause all the wires make that impossible) you will want to cover up when walking around and phone or iPad. I watched Netflix and played games while awake but slept a lot as well. You don’t need much more than that. Seriously. Good luck. 🍀

I was totally going to bring a robe... and like a nightgown type thing. I didn't think about the wires at all.. this makes so much sense.

Yea and you will have all the wires attached after surgery in which you must wear their robe so no point to bring that either unless you want to ask them to unhook all that so you can change gowns which most people don’t feel up to all that.

Trust me. I bought a new robe and two nightgowns even. But didn’t use any of it. Brought pajama pants too based on someone’s comment on here and it was all I needed.

Hello and welcome. You will definitely find advice, support and motivation here on this site. Second to the surgery, joining this site is the best decision I have made for myself. People are so kind and helpful. Congrats on your surgery date and don’t be too nervous. We all were but it’s a good decision and the day will be here soon enough. Best of luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
