Hello,

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 41 yr old female that has dealt with weight issues since middle school.

I'm finally doing something about it. I began this wls process in Nov. & today I had my psych appointment. It went better than expected. I had heard & read horror stories about it, but it was a piece of cake. He made sure that I understood the whole process. & he had me to explain my expectations after wls.

I have my last weight management appointment on this Monday & I'm excited. However, nervousness does seem to be creeping in. I'm not nervous about the surgery, but I am nervous about dumping and nutrition (vitamins) afterwards. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'm glad that I found this app so that I can communicate with people who are thinking about going through this process, are going through this process, or have gone through this process.

Congratulations on ticking off another step & welcome.

What surgery are you having? Dumping isn’t nearly as common with sleevers but it can happen when eating certain foods - often sugar. Usually though you learn to avoid those foods pretty quickly. While taking Multi Vitamins is very important during the weight loss stage, there are sleepers like me who don’t take them anymore. Regular blood tests show my levels are great as I get all my required Vitamins & minerals from what I eat.

Good luck on getting your surgery date.

dumping isn't common with sleeve. It's more common with RNY, but supposedly only about 30% of RNY'ers dump. I never have and know several others who never have, either. And even if you're a "dumper", it can be prevented by limiting - or avoiding - sugar (some people dump on fat - so that can be limited as well - but we all should be limiting fat and sugar ANYWAY).

nutritional deficiencies are rare as long as you keep on top of your Vitamins.

I don't have any dumping issues, as long as I don't eat anything over 15 grams of sugar.

Thank y'all for responding. I'm having the bypass surgery.

Good luck. I had mine 8/24/20, and wish I had done it sooner.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
