Exercise and heavy weight workouts

Recommended Posts

I know that walking is important and something I will need to do moving forward forever. I enjoy going to the gym. I went for 2 years recently pretty religously. My wife finally told me she wished I would quit going because I was only getting bigger. She was right, I was gaining muscle and not losing much fat because I hated the cardio...It was just boring to me. I wanted to pump some Iron baby! I was bench pressing 225 quite a few times and some lighter sets as well which I felt pretty good about at 61-62 years old at the time. I also was pressing well over 500 pounds on the seated incline leg press. 3 sets of 25. I realize after surgery I cant just jump back in and start lifting like this again but it made me feel good...I liked it. With Covid I am in no rush to get back in the gym until I get the vaccine but I do have dumbells in our gym here at the condos and will start there when the time is right after surgery. How long after surgery before you guys got back in the gym and got after it with heavy weights? Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

I was told eight weeks (although I wasn't lifting nearly as much as you do, so your surgeon may recommend a different timeline for you...)

I was cleared to lift after one month but I tried it and didn't feel ready for it yet. I might try again in a couple months. I switched to resistance bands for now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
