Hi Folks,

I have a question. Does anyone have trouble with "real food"? I can eat a cookie or an ice cream cone or pop corn and it goes down just fine but let me try to eat real food and it gets stuck. What am I doing wrong? Sometimes even yogurt will stick - it just depends on how my band is working on that day. What can I do about this problem?

I can eat Breakfast and in about 2 to 2 1/2 hrs. later my stomach is growling. Do I eat again ( like a snack) or do I wait for the next meal?

Any help will be appriciated.

Thanks,

Motor Car Annie ;) :help:

Annie, there are 2 types of tightness. Tightness to liquids and tightness to solids. If you are tight to liquids you should get an unfill. If you are tight to solids and don't mind eating a softer diet to lose weight then it is your decision. If you get stuck on things like liquids, ie. yogurt you may be too tight. In my case, I can eat a little solids without problems. When I am at 3.2 (I'm at 2.9 right now) my diet is much softer. It just depends on what you want from your band. Also, if you eat a healthy breakfast high in Protein and you are hungry in 2 hours that indicates to me you need a fill. If you find that solids are hard however then I wouldn't get one. I would simply eat 5-6 small portions a day 1-2 oz of solid protein for example. Are you losing?; That is a sure indication on whether or not you need a fill. Good luck.

Hi Annie,

I am the same way. It seems like I can eat JUNK, but have a difficult time eating what I know I should. It seems like it is not just about getting things stuck (pain). It is about that feeling of feeling everything that goes down. If that makes sense. I hate that sensation. It is like the worst imaginable screetch. Like nails on a chalkboard. This is the main thing that I did not expect with this surgery. I feel for you.

I am scheduled for my first fill on 12-12. Since this is all new to me I'm not sure what I'm feeling is heartburn or if something is actually stuck. I'm a little disappointed. I'm not losing. But I feel like its my own fault. I haven't been sticking with counting how many ounces I eat. I'm hoping my first fill will help and I'll start losing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kim, it is all about restriction girl. Some people can eat 1 cup and lose. In my case it is more like 1/2 cup. I always start my day with a Protein Drink with 30 grams of Protein to help.

Keep going back for fills until you feel good restriction. Make sure you can still eat solids though.

I'm just hoping the fill helps. I feel like I can eat more than the 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup that I was told to stick to

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
