Chugging Water?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am 8 days post op, I feel like drinking lots of Water but I am afraid to drink too much. I was told to only take only 1oz of liquid every 15 minutes while awake. I did that for the first few days, but I am drinkng out of a regular glass now and started some mushies. I want to drink more water but I'd like to know if anyone else has been able to drink large quantities without pain? And about how much water are people generally drinking in a day?

Thanks!

I believe you are suppose to consume 64 oz. You should be able to drink Water fairly easy since you don't have a fill yet. That will slow down once you get restriction.

You could always call and ask your doc to be sure. I wouldn't "chug" Water, but I'm sure you could do more than 1 oz every 15 minutes. Just make sure each gulp of water isn't too big and you are probably fine.

But, for how long did they say 1 oz of liquid every 15 minutes? If they gave you a time frame, you should stick to that. If not, I would call, because my guess would be they probably meant for the first 24 hours or something.

I wish I could chug water! This last fill won't let me and its SO frustrating!

I agree with Marimaru - follow your doc's instructions. I know mine gave me those same guidelines but when I told them I was able to drink a whole glass he said it was supose to be helping to develope good habits for later when the band was tighter - hence the spot I'm in now. I wouldn't worry much about it, but it doesn't hurt to follow your dr's orders.

Thank you for responses! My doc said 64 oz a day, 1 oz at a time until she sees me again (tomorrow). But I called the other day and spoke with a nurse, I was starving! She said to have cream Soups. That helped, but I used to drink lots of Water in a sitting, it's hard taking it slow.

But you are right, I'm learning new habits. I gotta keep my eye on the prize!

Thanks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
