Hard time adjusting

Hi !!

i had my vsg surgery on December third but I’ve been craving so many thing including pickles. Would it be a bad idea to eat a pickle without the skin ? Also, how do you deal with having people in your house eating all the amazing delicious food meanwhile you’re sitting eating puréed food ?

I remember feeling that the first few weeks after surgery. You feel a bit of buyers remorse and I know my mind was like I'd give anything if I could eat food.! Lol...I found I had to not have my family eat around me and just would concentrate on myself. sugar free popsicles really helped me as it was good to crunch and chew on something.

When you can see the scale start to move really helps motivate you. I'm 5 weeks out and it does get a lot easier. I'm starting to eat more normal but it pouch is small so I can only eat about a half a cup. So I concentrate on getting my Protein in, I don't eat breads, and very low carb. But I enjoy eating fish, chicken, meatballs, homemade cheeseburger with no bun etc. It gets easier it really does. Hang in there!

I found myself craving pickles as well. I started drinking Pickle Juice, which was really satisfying. At first it was out of a bottle of pickles, but I found that you can actually buy bottles of pickle juice. Quite a nice discovery!

It's not time for hard foods yet, so I wouldn't try the pickle. Do you want the crunch or could you just drink some of the juice? It honestly never bothered me when my husband ate food and I couldn't have any. I thought the smell would bother me, but it didn't. I just did what I had to do.

One's taste preferences can change following surgery. What was delicious before may not be after. I also craved Pickle Juice. I didn't have much due to acid reflux but just enough.

How far out were you when you had some ?

During the first few weeks I kept reminding myself that I am healing - you literally have stitches holding your stomach together. That visual helped me be 100% on plan for the first 6+ weeks since it isn't just about trying to lose weight - it's about allowing your body to heal from something that's physically pretty traumatic. Good news is the body is an amazing thing!

I was probably at least 3 if not 4 weeks out. I had absolutely no desire for "food" prior to that.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
