14 days after WLS

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I'm 14 days after WLS.

Have lost 13 lbs in last 10 days.

But somehow I'm stuck now.

Still on the full liquid diet, try to count my calories but still got the feeling I'm not loosing anymore weight.

Anyone with same problem?

Would love to read your experience.

Thank you

Don't have a lot of information about you, it would be helpful if you filled in your profile...hightest weight, surgery day weight, current weight, height...all this gives context to your post and helps us to tailor a response to you.

So if I understand correctly its been about four days since you have lost scale weight, but in the 10 days before that you've lost 13lb??? That's great and above average for the stage you are at.

There will be weight loss stalls along the way, one of the major ones is the three week stall (though for some this can happen before three weeks and for others well after).

Please take the time to fill in your details.

Stalls are normal and part of the process. You've just hit your first one. Relax. It's okay. Stick with the Protein and Water and you'll be losing again in no time.

Hi.

Where do I fill on the profile?
I can't find it.

It happened to me, too. It’s a stall, and there’s nothing to be done but follow your plan and wait it out. It’s discouraging while it happens, but it’s normal and it WILL end! I dropped another 8 pounds in a week when it finally ended. Hang in there!

Hi there - also 14 days post op and I have only lost 5lbs. I am just trying to remain chill. I was on the pre-op diet for 3 weeks and then an additional 3 days of only liquid (I have a big liver that really needed to get out of the way!) and have been following instructions to a T. I am on pureed foods now and really looking forward to "soft" foods starting Friday. Am doing okay with the semi-solid foods but have to check in with every bite to make sure when I should stop. All in all doing well I think just the weight loss is frustrating but I am just keeping in mind that I signed up for a life long solution and I need to just trust the process. Appointment with my medical team tomorrow so I will also see what they say. Good luck!

How long have you been on the pureed food?
I'm starting my pureed food phase tomorrow for 2 weeks.
Let's see how it goes.
I'm so fed up of this liquid diet honestly.
Looking forward to pureed food.

On the mobile app, you can update your stats by clicking “Profile” on the bottom right and then selecting “Patient Information.”

On the web site, click on your username on the top right of the screen, then click “My Surgery” under settings. Then click “Progress” on the left sidebar.

Hi.
I found "my surgery" on the web site but it doesn't allow me to edit.

Hmm, that’s weird. Maybe try to do it on the mobile app.

Instead of going to "my surgery" go to "profile." That should allow you to edit.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
