I feel like I’m not doing all I can

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had surgery August 27, and I didn’t tell anyone . I didn’t want to hear any negativity. So now 9 weeks later, I’m back to work. I take my Vitamins and prescriptions. I don’t exercise as much as I should.
I eat between 55 -60 grams of Protein. And that is hard to do.
I drink 60 ounces Water. I wait 30-45 minutes between eating and drinking.
I have at least one shakes a day, and the rest is Proteins bars , or chicken or other healthy proteins.
I started at 300 pounds and am down 64 pounds. I get compliments and I feel like a fraud, or like I could be doing more. Anyone else fee like this any advice.

No fraud there. You changed your eating habits for the better and lost weight as a result. That's great progress. I started the year at 300 lbs. and had my Revision to DS in May. I talk about the change in nutrition and revision surgery with whoever asks. Getting comments like "You look like a different person" all the time.

Remember the surgery didn't take any weight off. Your new nutrition plan did. If you follow the plan long term, you'll reach your goal.

I got the sleeve 7 years ago. I didn't plan out my nutrition very well. I relied on Protein Bars and Protein Shakes heavily as a long term diet. I've learned since then it is better to base your nutrition on natural sources, not processed foods. Once I finished the puree diet, I stopped consuming Protein shakes and protein bars.

You think that you "could be doing more"? What do you have in mind when it comes to that feeling?

Having WLS shouldn't make you feel like a fraud. It's a surgical therapy, not "cheating" in any way.

However, when it comes to being asked how you lost the weight and you decide to give people the "healthy choices" speech and casually gloss over the fact that you had WLS - well, IMO that'd be another story.

There's nothing fraudulent in telling people you decided to take control over your weight problem. Period. If they press you, it is perfectly acceptable to say something like, "You know, most people regain weight loss within a year, so I really don't want to talk about it or give advice to anyone else right now. Ask me again in a year, if I am still maintaining my weight loss." I think this is very reasonable and actually a wise answer. There's nothing worse than telling people about personal success in anything and then end up eating your words later. I have no doubt that you will be successful in your weight loss, but you don't have to give details to anyone, until you are ready. Some people like to just put it out there, and other people feel a bit to vulnerable to judgement to do that. I still haven't told anyone (except immediate family) about my surgery. My co workers see how I eat, and how healthy it is. There is no question that healthy eating and exercise is what is keeping my weight off, and so they don't even ask.

It sounds like you are doing everything well and are right on track! If you are feeling like you could do more exercise, don't give it another thought. Exercise is good for your overall fitness level, but diet is the key to weight loss. I did almost no exercise during my weight loss phase (aside from normal walking to get to and from work) and was quite successful.

This process is difficult, both physically and emotionally. Give yourself a break and think of how much you have accomplished!

Yes to all of this. You are not obligated to give out your personal business to anyone just because they asked about or complimented your weight loss. Periodt.

Congrats on your success so far!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
