Just a few questions

Recommended Posts

I am waiting to switch insurances so for now I am just reading and learning..
If you don't mind answering a few questions, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a nervous picker...

If I have a bump on my arm I constantly touch it or pick at it... is the port going to be something that is noticed easy? I hate to write that but that has been one of my concerns.

What happens if you really really get hungry?

Do you miss food during the liquid diet and how did you over come your desires?

How long before you felt that the lap band was apart of you?

In other words how long before you felt normal?

Do you get to eat steak or anything like that on occasions??

Thanks for you answers:faint:

Jill, see comments inline....

No, I cannot feel my port. The only time I can is if I lie down and search for it. It is under muscle I believe.

What happens if you really really get hungry?

I get hunger pangs.

Do you miss food during the liquid diet and how did you over come your desires?

Yes, I missed food. I was able to have anything that fit through a straw. That being said, creamy Soups really helped me early on. The milk you use in creamy broccoli for example is a good source of Protein. Plus they are thicker Soups so it really helped me.

How long before you felt that the lap band was apart of you?

I felt like it was a part of me pretty much from the beginning. You don't have much restriction so it really did take me 6 months to get the right restriction level. That would probably be a better guess is at 6 months when I knew when I had to stop eating.

In other words how long before you felt normal?

I have felt good for a year now. I do PB sometimes but I am fine with that as it is really part of being banded.

Do you get to eat steak or anything like that on occasions??

I eat everything, just not much of it. I can eat steak, chicken, tacos, spaghetti, everything. Just like a bird though.

Make sure you follow the post op diet to the tee. It is very important for healing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
