Hello everyone. My date is September 28th for sleeve surgery, but I have an issue. I had a telehealth appointment 2 weeks ago and lied about my weigh in to my dietician for her to clear me. I am really 375 pounds And I told her that I weight 365 :( ! Insurance approved me and everything and I am trying so hard to lose weight by the 10th of September before I am busted and I am just scared that the surgeon will cancel my date. My question is ... If they see that my weight is 375 and not 365, will the surgeon cancel my surgery or still perform surgery due to the fact that insurance has approved me? I am hoping that this is a safe space and that there won’t be anything too harsh said. I am human, I have a problem, and I am not perfect. Thank you. :(

I don’t think you have anything to worry about, but I am confused. You say you told them you were 365, but you’re really 375, but your profile says 360. Perhaps you lost weight, but I wouldn’t worry about it. But for the sake of your health please be honest with your doctor and dietician, that’s the only way they can help you.

Also, if it makes you feel any better I told my doctor and dietician I was 13 pounds lighter than I was; not because I didn’t want to be truthful, but I couldn’t bring myself to step on my home scale. It had probably been four months since I’d weighed myself, and I went with my last recorded weight. Then one day, about a month ago, I mustered the nerve to step on the scales. Not good, but I was honest and started doing something about it immediately. I lost the 13, and I’m on target to drop another 10 before my surgery in 4 days.

Good luck.Try not to worry too much.

Hello! Thank you for your response. I haven’t logged onto the forum since January and I was 360 in January and have not updated my profile. I gained weight during quarantine. Smh. I will just try my best to lose some weight and pray. Thank you!

Just say your home scale must be off.

OMG! I was thinking of saying that. I feel so horrible because my bariatric team is amazing and have been working with me since last year. If I get really desperate I will just have to say this and wait for what they say after. My pre surgical testing is the 10th, so I am going to try my hardest to lose as much as I can and at least get to 370. Thank you for your response.

I think you can lose that by the 10th. I've lost 45 pounds since May 23, 2020. Its not easy, but EVERYTHING my dietician told me worked. Are you skipping drinking fluids while eating, eating only WHAT you are allowed, not drinking for 30 min before and after eating, using small plates, measuring food, using the CORRECT shakes, logging food (I love the Lose It app.), journaling about your emotions when you go to eat and you aren't hungry, stopping when SATISFIED not FULL, Water all day (when allowed), chewing really slow, exercising a little I'm 336 on oxygen so you can do this girl. I do it in bed.. lol. You have to trust the process. I am getting therapy which wasn't required. HUGE help. We don't even talk about food. Lol. You can do this! I promise!

Thank you for your response. You know, you told me something that I have never thought of before, the "using a journal to write down my emotions when I go to eat and am not hungry" thing. I think that may help. I have been using myfitnesspal and everything and I still snack around, sometimes I even snack off of the plates of the meals that I prepare for my kids. I am scared because I know I need to get these habits on point before I transform and I am praying that I will be strong enough after. I will also try chewing slowly because I am not doing that at all, I eat crazy fast :-/. and I am going to get some small plates, I have not been shopping for anything yet. It still hasn't registered in my head that I have a date and this is all about to go down. I appreciate the feedback and tips, thank you very much. ❤️

I lost 15 pounds on the two week pre-op diet so maybe try to go on the pre-op diet a little early. I was 321 on my surgery date so I was also in the 300's so I can tell you it's definitely possible to lose those 10 pounds before you see the doctor.

You are far from the only person who had gained weight during quarantine! There was a very intense thread about it on this forum recently (so intense, it had to be shut down). Nobody should judge you for that — it’s a tough time for everyone.

Some insurance companies, and maybe some bariatric programs, do have a requirement that you not gain any more weight before the surgery. This may or may not be the case for you, but you might want to check.

I bet you can lose 10 pounds, or close to it, before September 10. You said you track everything in MyFitnessPal, and that’s a great start. I lost over 60 pounds in the 5 months before surgery just by doing two things: tracking everything in MyFitnessPal (and staying well under my calorie limit) and intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting really helped me to get out of the habit of snacking. I did 16 hour fasts every day, starting after dinner and ending with lunch the next day. It was hard at first, but not so bad once I got used to it. I could push through the hunger and temptation knowing that I could have an indulgent dinner. I think it was a good workout for my willpower.

Look for foods that are filling and tasty but relatively low in calories. Look at the foods you normally eat and figure out which ones are the healthiest. Salads are great, especially if you use light dressing. You can have a big salad with lots of grilled chicken for under 300 calories. popcorn was another one of my favorites. Not exactly the healthiest snack, but a mini bag of “blast o butter” microwave popcorn Is just 210 calories and really filling (even lower in calories if you pop your own with an air popper, but you have to start somewhere). I LOVE Built Bars (protein bars). Some flavors used to be 110 calories and made a great daily treat (they recently changed and now they’re 130, but still a heck of a lot better than a candy bar).

Anytime. I totally understand about eating fast. I still struggle with drinking Water too fast because I'm ALWAYS thirsty. Yes, when I was with my ex fiance and we had my nephew and his son it was SOOOO hard to not eat as I cooked and they never wanted to eat the good food I ate. Honestly, healthy Snacks are my saving grace and planning everything. Glad you're on here because I think most of all feel the exact same at one time or another. Good luck. Let us know how it's going.

My experience is the surgery won't be cancelled. Surgeons despite being medical professionals still need to generate income. Especially If your surgeon is affiliated with a hospital network. With the losses in revenue from cancelled elective surgeries they need to recoup as much as possible. WLS is a money maker for them. Continue to lose as much as you can but, I'm almost positive we will be reading about your post surgery journey on this forum. Enjoy the good health you'll soon be getting.

I don’t think they will cancel the surgery and you have plenty of time to drop the weight before your surgery date. During the liquid diet phase I lost 13 pounds. You got this!

This I am on day 6 of the pre op and i am down 16 lbs. If you really stick to it, it ia possible. However, i would really be honest with them and say you were estimating and it appears like you were wrong. You are getting this done because you need the help. My surgeon expected me to continue to lose weight after my last appointment so I would just be up front and know that you will lose some of the weight during pre-op

They didn't weigh me when I went to the hospital so my last weigh-in with the doctor was about 3 weeks before surgery.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
