No hunger or full feelings whatsoever. Normal???

Recommended Posts

I am one week out from my sleeve surgery. I have absolutely no sense of hunger or fullness. Is this normal???

I am trying to judge when to eat by time and food volume. So I am using 150ml as my maximum sleeve volume.

Just trying to eat something every 2 hours and not go over 150ml.

I feel like I am all alone; like I got herded through a surgery factory. Now my surgeon has my $$ and wants nothing to do with post surgery patients.

Any thoughts?

yes - normal. Most of us lose our hunger for several months. It comes back for the vast majority sometime during the first year, and things get harder then - so take advantage of it while it lasts - it'll never be easier to lose weight than the next few months!

fullness - first of all, you likely had nerves that were cut during surgery, and it'll take awhile for them to regenerate. Also, you'll start feeling restriction once you move on to solid food. In the meantime, just measure out what you're supposed to eat and just eat that.

Yes, very normal and you’re doing the right thing.

Almost 16months out, & I still often don’t feel hungry. (Hope it lasts a lot longer.) On these days, I stick to my routine of when & what I eat (though I do eat a little less & stretch out meal times on these days).

Oh, & you’ll certainly know when your restriction starts to kick in. Also, I noticed when I did start to feel hungry it was a different feeling. I didn’t know what was wrong but knew something was off. But that could be just me - lol.

I am a year out and still never get hungry. I know portion sizing really well so never over fill for the full feeling Just do not like it. Run with the no hunger made my journey a little easier and still to this day i have to mentally remember to eat!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
