How long between insurance approval and surgery date?

Recommended Posts

Seven weeks. But my surgeon was scheduled out for December so... I really didn't have a choice.

For my VSG it was about a month.

For my VSG to RNY revision 15 days but also took an appeal after denial. The whole process from first file to approval of appeal took 32 days.

My surgery was scheduled before my doc ever submitted it to insurance for approval. I was nervous about it, but the doc's staff knew what they were doing! Approval came in a few days after it was submitted. I had Aetna.

One month. Insurance approved my surgery in 4 days, but due to COVID i wasn’t scheduled until 2 days after the hospital started allowing elective surgeries.

My process was quick, received approval (August 4) from insurance company, two business days after the claim was submitted. The surgeons office contacted me the next day with surgery date options. I’m scheduled for August 31st.

Once they got my approval, I was scheduled for three months later.. but that’s only because COVID has them so backed up. I have my surgery scheduled for September 15.

My ins approved my sleeve in feb and I didn’t get scheduled till May . Due to the doctor only doing gastric surgery patients on Wednesdays.

I had to wait a 7 weeks because my surgery hospital closed elective surgeries for the month of April... then I was scheduled the third week of May. Would have been WAY sooner if CoVid hadn't struck.

Thank you all for the replies. Apparently my insurance requires a 90 day waiting period. I am about halfway there. I've already met my deductible for this year so I was a little worried about getting this done before the end of the year. Sounds like it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Best of luck to you all. Thanks again for your responses!

Submitted for approval last week and was approved today, surgery is Monday August 31!! To be honest the surgeon had it scheduled before paper work was ever submitted. It’s all happening so fast I’m pretty nervous.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
