Possible pregnancy after VSG surgery

Recommended Posts

I just got my VSG surgery in May of 2020. Before my surgery I was always on point with my periods. Never late, but now I'm five days late and I'm kind of scared with mixed emotions. I don't want to get my hopes up because for me it would be awesome if I was pregnant, I barely got my surgery 3 months ago and I've lost a total of 68 lbs so far and I read a post on here that supposedly because of the sudden weight loss the IUD might have a probability of moving or shifting or even coming out. I guess my question is has anyone that has had weight loss surgery had this happen to them and is there a possibility that I might be pregnant. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative, but that was 3 days after my missed period. I would love it if I'm pregnant, but also terrified due to the fact that I'm supposed to wait 18 to 24 months to become pregnant after my surgery.

it could be that but it could also be the hormone issue that the above poster mentioned. A lot of women have screwed up periods for the first few months after surgery (and weird moods, too). Supposedly it's because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and when you start losing weight rapidly, that estrogen is released. It takes awhile for things to balance out again.

I had an IUD (Mirena) when I had my surgery and didn’t personally have any pregnancy scares. Congrats OP if you aren’t pregnant—but if you’re not perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise. It’ll give you more time to lose weight and your future bb better conditions to grow, the further out you are from surgery.

I got pregnant from a failed IUD 6 months after I was sleeved. Just delivered and only gained 10 pounds during pregnancy. Breastfeeding and trying to find the right nutrition plan to lose weight, but get enough nutrition/calories to support breastfeeding.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
