How do you eat going out?

Water pretty much goes right through you, so you're not likely to do any damage. Well I guess technically you could, but you'd have to drink A LOT of water at one sitting to cause problems. Your body will rebel if you're drinking more than it can handle. food is a different story since in stays in your stomach for awhile.

I get a full feeling drinking water sometimes. Thank you for that assurance I have been so scared to drink too much worried about busting staples cause my surgeon put the fear in me. He was like if you rupture you might not live. I’m at the beginning of my 4 week marker Wednesday I would think my stomach can handle at least fluids. I have my post opp tomorrow. I’m making a list of questions so J don’t miss anything at all!

That’s good information! Right now I’m having a hard time feeling full with 1/4 cup of food, maybe cause the food is very light that I’m eating! I think yogurt is the way to go I’m already super excited about eating parfaits this Wednesday when I can eat that!

I only worry about that dumping syndrome that I bet sucks!

you should feel the restriction once you start eating regular food. Plus another reason you might not be feeling "full" is that your nerves might not be fully healed yet. They always say not to chase the "full" feeling when you're early out, because it may not be there. Just measure out what you're supposed to eat and just eat that..

also, only about 30% of RNY'ers dump, so you may never dump. I never have.

I hope I don’t dump! You are so right that is why I measure out my food! I had coffee for the first time today and felt full from that😊. Weird maybe due to the lactose free half n half?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
