How long does the restriction period last?I’m 2 months out and afraid the restriction won’t last long. I follow my The plan was advised. When did you start feeling like your restriction was not as effective as when you first had surgery.

I’m only 11 months out & I’d say it’s still in effect about 95% of the time. Sometimes I forget & push it a bit too much (eat too quickly, try that extra bite) but it’s not pleasant.
Keep to your plan. Go slowly. Good luck 😁

I still feel restriction at the 14-month mark. I can definitely eat more now than I could during the first six months or so, but not nearly as much as I could before surgery. I occasionally eat to the point of discomfort at this point.

I’m over 2 years out and my restriction has lessened but is certainly still in place.

I'm 2 years out. I can eat more than I could at the beginning. I'd say about 1 cup on average, sometimes more depending on the density of the food. I still have "restriction" in the sense that #1-my portion sizes are certainly limited and #2-if I go beyond my limit I am uncomfortable.

almost five years out. I can still feel it, but I can eat much more than I could the first few months after surgery. As an example, before surgery, my husband and I used to split a large pizza. I could eat half of it, no problem. Now two pieces is about all I can handle. Also, at a Mexican restaurant, I can handle two of those small authentic tacos (with the 4" or 6" tortillas with just meat, onions, and cilantro on them). I used to be able to eat a burrito with sides of Beans and rice. I wouldn't be able to eat all that anymore.

Hope that gives you some idea..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
