Regained 18 lbs. -2 Yrs Post Op :(

Recommended Posts

I'm really struggling! I'll be 2 years post op in July (too much math). I lost 95 lbs. since surgery and 130 lbs. all time. Since the beginning of this year I've had a lot of issues and have gained 18 lbs. It seemed like it happened overnight. I'm the kind of person who needs serious structure. What BASIC diet/meal plan can I follow going forward? I had RNY Gastric Bypass, and am a pescatarian, but I can substitute seafood for anything. ANY help would be very much appreciated.

Take care and stay safe, all. 💜

I'm sorry to hear of your struggles! But congrats on 130lbs loss!!! That's outstanding. Way to catch it before it becomes a huge problem. You can turn around 18lbs with focus!!!

I think, this is a tough time to make those kinds of "purging" sweeping changes (like getting back to the very beginning of your BFD (Bariatric Forever Diet Stage 4). Cuz no one knows about your present access to foods. In our town, we're blessed. No one has chosen the fresh veggies, fruits, and meats! Everyone has totally wiped out any pantry item. So it would be easy to do here, but I know that isn't the case in many places. (And also, our stores are keeping their prices the same and not price gouging. THANK YOU LORD!)

If you want/need extra structure you can come join us in my FB group. We have weekly face-to-face peer support group meetings that are well-attended and is password protected and private. If you want to know about them, just pm me!

Also, I'd probably start by trying to clear your house of the C.R.A.P. and start logging, weighing, measuring, planning each bite and tracking to see where you are. Then you will know which direction you need to go in.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
