Probiotic prunes helped me. I chewed them up really good when I was allowed to have soft foods, of course.

I've had to take Miralax once so far. Just be careful not to overdo whatever you use since there's a toilet paper shortage....

chronic Constipation is very common among bariatric patients - and not just in new post-ops! It's a lifetime thing for a lot of us. I have a capful of Miralax every morning - others regularly use stool softeners, prunes, or Smooth Move tea. When things get really backed up for me, in spite of the Miralax (about once or twice a month), I do a night or two of Milk of Magnesia - but some people have to resort to enemas, suppositories, or magnesium citrate.

I read your other post, you don't understand what the toilet paper hoarding is about either (shrugs shoulders), WTH????

My dr had me take stool softeners proactively for the first 6 weeks. I switched to adding fiber to my Protein Shake after that and its worked for me.

3 weeks post op and I believe I have it somewhat under control. I take 1 tablespoon of Milk of Magesium every other day and Miralax daily to keep regular. Being contraption is no joke.

Agree-severe Constipation here. On day 4,5 and 6 took milk of magnesia. Usually very effective for me, helped very little. Called Dr. he suggested colace, and miralax, fiber, or suppositories. Different things work for different folks so we have to experiment with what works For us. Plus waster, Water, water and walking, walking, walking. My best tip is STAY AHEAD OF IT! The sooner you can get regular, (and accumulated OUT) the better. I was too patient waiting for things to kick in thus, spent one very miserable day😖. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
