I had my 1st post op Dr visit today. Dr was excited that I was averaging 1.3lb loss a day . I've got one more week of liquids then I can do pureed. But I have been released to go back to my desk job! Start back on Monday. Looking forward to that. Here's my question, I feel that I swell up or retain alot of gas at the end of the day. My chicken and beef broth seems to bloat me up but I crave savory taste by the end of the day. Does any else experience this? Does walking relieve this or just exhaust me to the point that I dont notice?

Walking always helps! It will help get your gut moving again. Definitely stay on liquids until your gut is moving! Do you notice it's happening with Protein Drinks or only your broths?

Also, get Gas-X Strips at Amazon.

Hi all... I’m one week post op today and 12lbs down. I am on full liquids and experience some of the bloating if I let too much time pass between meals. I was told today that I should be doing to Protein Shakes. 1st an hour after waking then snack mid morning, then lunch ( Protein Shake or soup) then snack and then dinner (soup or Protein shake). I have to have a total of 64oz of fluids. So that’s sipping Water all day. This would alleviate the bloating and fatigue. I wasn’t getting in enough calories. Lastly, walking, walking, walking... Hope this helps...

I am also 1 week out today and I am having the same bloated feeling when doing broth. After reading these posts sounds like I need to do more walking. Thank you.

@Margaret 5161 I’m day 14 and I’m still only down 10 pounds. I posted about this on day 12 and all responses talked about the dreaded 3rd week stall. I was perplexed bc I wasn’t even two full weeks and already stalling!! Some people said they experienced their first stall at two weeks so it sounds like we’re right on track as it were. I’m gonna keep on keeping on with my diet and walking and hopefully I’ll see some movement on the scale within the week. I wish you best of luck!

Same here. I had my surgery 15 days ago a and havent seen any loss in about 4 days. Hopefully I'm losing inches but I cant find my measuring tape...lol. Guess I'll see next week when I get on the scale Monday.

You may find that your weight is in a holding pattern and then boom! down 3-5 pounds. It can be more like steps than a constant declining slope. I find it interesting that I can see the weight loss happening (in my face, my body, my clothes), but the scale doesn't reflect that on a day to day basis. Just hang in there, it's happening!

I am down 11lbs since surgery. I didnt drop any for 2 days but then I dropped 1.5lbs. Patience. If your walking or exercising every day, your gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. All the Protein your taking in is burning the fat when your exercising. Start taking measurements of your abs, thighs, upper arms, measure that way and you will see more progress. I, too am guilty of the "love/hate"relationship with the scale. My doctor said not to weigh everyday but i am guilty of that too. Just keep it all in perspective!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
