I am 13 months post revision band to bypass and lately nothing seems to taste right. meat in particular tastes weird. I don’t have an issue eating it, it doesn’t get stuck or make me sick but it tastes and often smells weird. For example the lamb mince we ate tonight tasted very gamey. I used to love pork and would often order it when we went out but the last couple of times that hasn’t tasted right either!

At this rate I am going to end up vegetarian which could be a problem as there are a heap of veggies I hate ( the bitter ones) , don’t really like eggs ( I can do the yolks so long as they are runny) and only eat small quantities of cheese. On top of that if I try to turn my hubby veggie he will rebel!

I can’t live on yogurt nuts and seeds!

Has anyone else been through this and how did you deal with it?

my sense of taste got a lot more intense after surgery (it didn't change - as in there weren't things I liked before and didn't after - or vice versa - but everything just tasted more intense). I don't notice it anymore. Not sure if it eventually stopped or if I just got used to it.

Want to bet ...😎

Joking!

It maybe just be a temporary aversion. I began to develop food aversions (in 2018) and my NUT helped me create a rotating menu of featured Proteins so that I didn't get sick of things completely. I still rotate Protein sources weekly/ bi weekly.

In fact I gave up yogurt for 6+ months because I was tired of it and yogurt was my absolute go to food. I'm just starting to eat it again.

*Perhaps* for now go with what sits well and add items back little by little. And of course if your entire appetite is severely reduced for a long period, its time to touch base with your team.

I would also like to say THANK YOU for sharing your experiences and congratulate you for achieving something that I feel is the BIGGEST hurtle in weight loss, you have manages to keep your goal weight after almost 5 years, I find that amazing!

I never wanted WLS and tried just about everything available in the weight loss industry to avoid it, including attending a weight loss “boot camp”. Unfortunately, every time I lost weight; it slowly came back. When I encounter people like you it gives me hope.. 😎

This is solid advice. Totally agree. I have a thing with certain foods where, for instance, if I eat tuna and find a bone or scale - it's no tuna for like 6 months at least. I eventually try again (hope for the best!). Definitely try foods cooked different ways, but if you just can't palate it right now, try again later!

I'm still pre-op (for the next 2 days) but it's a fear of mine I hope not to have to encounter.

Good luck 👍

Its been awhile since I played basketball so I have been practicing lol but I would never had even volunteered to do this 70lbs ago!

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
