got my first fill! ..but restriction in my throat?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill today ..it ended up being 4.2 cc's in a 10 cc band. For those wondering, its an odd experience, a little uncomfortable from all the "kneading" the doc does to get the port where he wants it (which for me was a good 3 inches away from where my port naturally sits LOL ..wtf?). Anyway, it wasn't painful, just kinda weird.

I have to be on Clear liquids for 2 days and fulls for two days and then can resume cautious eating. Right now I feel the same odd feeling in my throat that I felt after surgery, its like a lump in my throat sort of feeling, like its hard to swallow past it. It's not a bad feeling, sort of a slight reminder to behave, I guess. When I first had the surgery the feeling would start when I was eating and I would decide that that must be how I feel my restriction and as soon as I felt it, I stopped eating. The feeling went away as soon as the food passed thru the band. Right now the feeling is constant, but I imagine the tissue around the band may be responding to what happened today and is maybe a little swollen. With luck, it will release in the next couple of days, otherwise I may go in for an adjustment to see if less of a fill will make it go away.

Anyone else have this experience?

Doc was also very happy with my weight loss :-)

Yes, you are swollen now. I found the throat thing very confusing myself but that is the restriction. good luck!

...my gullet is open. I was given 4 ccs in my APS and am wondering how many of you had an "open gullet" feeling with lots of burping? The pressure at my band/diaphram area is tolerable but I'm questioning that open gullet feeling like before you throw up.

I'm on liquids for at least 2 days with instructions to cautiously proceed to mushies to solids afterwards.

It was neat to see the fluro, I even saw the slight "pooling" of barium and Water in my esophogus...I know the feelings won't stay forever but I'm just curious how many of you experienced the same sensations!

TIA

Yes the throat things feels weird. That's my cue to know I'm getting full or have eaten too fast (usually the latter). It's kind of weird to know it's time to slow it down when you feel it in your throat.

I was banded in Fl. too by Dr. Grossbard, his office is in Zephyrhills Florida. I think it's the same practice. Where do you live? I'm in Orlando Your weight loss is very good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
