When does your mind match your body?

Recommended Posts

I splurged this week on new underwear, the first since surgery. I was careful to use my measurements to buy them and brought them home and washed them, as I always do before wearing them. I took the panties out and immediately said to myself, no way my big a** will fit these, to my surprise they fit. I did and said the same for the first lacey bra I've had in decades. It fit too. I need to be kinder to myself and not allow my head to talk to me like this. An exciting day and a big victory that I can't share with anyone but my husband, he's thrilled BTW. I suspect it will take some time for the head to catch up with the body. Now if I'm in an accident and rushed to the ER I will be known as the granny in sexy undies, and not granny panties!

I asked myself that question the other day - We are about the same time post WLS and the other day I took my kids shirt - Due to the fact I am still looking like a homeless guy and have bought little clothing till i hit the bottom weight,

I went to my room and looked at the shirt and said no way going to be to tight, Put it on and it was actually a little loose.

Not that I answered you question but i want the same answer also!

You've done great! Time to get yourself a few things. I guess it will just take time, but it is a wonderful problem to work on!

I am 1 year post op and have been at goal for 5 months. I have pretty much accepted my new body shape and size now, but it sure took a while. I found myself comparing my size to others at work who wore the same size scrubs - small. They looked so tiny and I had to realize that I did, too, if I was wearing the same size. :)

I still find myself with self doubt and insecurity in public, however. It is as if I still feel like the fattest girl in the room. I know I am not that girl anymore, but I still lack confidence. It will take more time to change that aspect of the mental damage done by decades of obesity.

I'm about three weeks post op. I wore 46 inch pants the day of the operation. Now, I'm in 40s. I can fit into 38's but they're a bit snug. Looks like I'm buying new pants every two weeks. I've gone from XXXL to XL in sweats.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
