Anyone else NOT have a pre-op diet?? Mine is day before only. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Recommended Posts

I was required to do a liquid diet 5 days pre-op but I ended up doing a week instead. A co-worker of mine had surgery the day before I did (different surgeon) and he wasn't required to do any special pre-op diet. It didn't really bother me and I think actually helped me with the diet after surgery. Every surgeon has their own program and it's probably just best to follow what they ask. Both of our surgeries went well and we're both doing fine now, although I'm able to tolerate more foods than he is (probably totally unrelated to our pre-op diets).

Although I plan to slow it way down to plain diet 1 week prior because I’m so scared ... of everything. Would love to hear from others if they also had no pre op diet...

I didn't have one as well. It depends on liver size.

With the band i had to do a 2 week diet... one week of full liq and one week of clear. Than after the reverse... one week clear, one week full, one week puree, one week softs and then reg.

With the sleeve it was the same, but i only had to do the one week clear because my BMI was only 30.

My doctor didn’t have me do a preop diet, but does make some patients do it. It just depends on everyone’s individual medical case

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
