Has anyone been prescribed Ozempic pre-surgery?

Recommended Posts

My doctor prescribed me Ozempic, which is an injectable diabetes drug that has been shown to be an effective weight loss drug. Like surgery, it makes you feel full quickly and blocks absorption. I’ve been taking it since July and, based on what I’ve read of post-surgery experiences, it has many effects and symptoms in common with surgery.

Has anyone else taken Ozempic? What has your experience been?

No, but I have friends who take it for type 2 diabetes. They do one shot a week and it helps control blood sugar. From the ads I have seen it can also make you lose some weight.

It has been shown in clinical trials that individuals who took 1 mg of Ozempic per week lost, on average, 12 pounds per year.

I do not have diabetes, however my PCP prescribed it as part of my preparation for surgery. I started taking it on July 29th and have been doing so weekly. In addition to changing my diet and exercising daily, I have lost over 100 pounds.

In reading the experiences of others, I have had a number of symptoms—including weight loss—that are experienced post-op: feeling fuller quicker, acid reflux, Constipation and weight loss.

While I don’t view it as a replacement for surgery, and I am proceeding with bypass late next month, I feel it definitely has prepared me for a good deal of life and eating will be like post-surgery.

I’ve been curious to know if my PCP’s practice is more widespread. She recently told me that a pill form of Ozempic is now on the market.

It seems as though Ozempic could help a number of people.

I took it for about a year for weight loss (not diabetic.) It made me so ill plus it is seriously expensive. I’m 7 weeks post bypass and so much happier without the Ozempic in my life.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
