I will never eat popcorn again, I swear I gained 40 pounds from that food alone the year before surgery. I have a weakness for any kind of fried potato, I haven’t touched those either.

Ah popcorn. I have been known to get a couple handfuls from my date at the movies on occasion. Though the last time I had popcorn, it was of the caramel kind and I missed about 30 mins of the movie cuz I had to do my dumping business in the washroom. 🙄

Do you guys have any foods you know you can tolerate but are just not eating ever again for the same reason?

I do have foods that I can tolerate but do not eat because I cannot control myself when I ate them. My two foods that fall into this category are Cereal and sweets.

I have many trigger foods. Some are triggers for “just” a few hours, and some I’ll probably never have again bc I don’t know how much I’ll be able to trust myself.

Wine and clear spirits slightly trigger my hunger, but any kind of mixed drink with sugars completely turns on my “I need salty, crunchy food and I NEED IT NOW!!!” cycle.

When I indulge in wine, I make sure I also have high fat, low carb options like mixed meats and cheeses, Parmesan chips, and some nuts on hand. The fat fills me up and it’s quite savory. The nuts and park chips are for when I need a bit of “crunch”
Because these items are low-ish in sugars, the cycle doesn’t escalate.

I’ve had bread like twice in the last year: once was when I was out traveling and the sammie I ordered was literally falling apart without the bread to hold it together (I was driving, had no option) and the other was when I stole a bite of my husbands dinner roll at dinner. Promptly spat out half of it bc it tasted so nasty. I’m counting myself lucky on this, but I’m under no illusion: I’m convinced that if I were to regularly try out bread, my aversion to it might fade or even go away and I don’t want that.
Therefore I won’t even go there.

Last fall at a football tailgate, I did have a bit of ruffles and French onion dip and it completely made me lose control for a few hours (I was also drinking at this event). Salty, carby, crunchy things are my kryptonite so I will indulge with caution and the knowledge that If I do, then I’ll prolly need to fast for at least 16-18 hours the next day to detox.

Strangely, I can walk right on by Cookies, cake, pie, candy and it’s no prob.
I had a half-slice chocolate mousse pie for Christmas (my all-time fave) and it was “meh”.
However, after having it, I was craving the savory crunchy so I know the sugars turned on my lizard brain.
At the end of the day, so not worth it IMO

@mousecat88

bread is a tough thing for me too. I haven’t had it in a long while but it’s an issue Because of my chronic illness and constant nausea and gut issues as well as loss of ability to taste properly. But even as a kid I’d want a bagel with butter over any other foods , plain and simple.

I struggle with metabolic disorders and inability to exercise. Back in let’s say 2008 my weight was up to 215 + lb but bariatric surgery was not an option back then. I fought so hard to lose I fought the sugar addiction and went strict low carb and low calories. The lowest I got was 124lb. But my illness kept getting worse as it still is. It’s chronic and lifelong. And I have many medical conditions. At some point when we moved states I needed to restart my efforts after so much stress. I found a low carb bread and it was great.

they make low carb bread, Bagels, thin Pizza Crust, pastas. the ingredients are good, it’s a balance of Fiber and Protein. Their website is:

http://www.greatlowcarb.com

i was losing weight. Until I wasn’t. I can’t say it had anything to do with their products. I was eating healthy, counting carbs and calories, eating healthy fats, etc. my worst thing was loving sweet kale salad with Gardein veggie foods like crab less crab cakes or cauliflower rice, etc.

here I thought I was eating healthy things and my weight made a sudden jump. Actually it started while I was still strict low carb, low calorie. Went from 130-160 in weeks! Tried to get help from doctors and nothing. Decided to add more veggies and less meats. I mean who gets fat on veggies? And healthy fat like avocado?

apparently me? So it scares me to dip into those foods even the healthy options. It’s hard finding foods when my tastebuds don’t work normally and haven’t in a long time and never got answers and plain toasted bagel with butter for some odd reason was always a comfort food. The low carb version actually tastes better.

i end up limited on foods due to food allergies and eating foods that trigger it just enough to make me ill where I pass out Asleep from low oxygen and swelling, but not anaphylaxis.

I think we all have a food we crave for certain reasons. I’ve dealt with my addiction in a way. And just put on my plate what I’m going to eat. But still don’t understand what caused the past gains when my eating was good. I probably veered way off topic. Sorry.

Ok I had surgery on Jan 27 2020 so I am 3 weeks out and have lost 32 lbs  I wish I had this done sooner. Now just trying to figure out different things to eat so I am not eating the same thing over and over. I did order some stuff today from the Bariatric Store and that stuff should be here in time for my next phase. I have a goal of 50 lbs by the first of June hope that is attainable. Good luck to every one on this journey

So went to my surgeon today for one month follow-up. Last time I was there he wanted me to put on 4kgs but oops I’ve lost another 2kgs. Told him it was intended, was trying to maintain, upped my food intake, was stable for almost 3 weeks but last weekend broke it.
Mum turned 80. Drinks at neighbours, a couple of crackers & dip, home late, no dinner. Out all morning, followed by celebratory family lunch, home late, no dinner. Whole dietary routine out the window. Did have a protein bar & tuna frittata muffin in between but didn’t eat much at all those two days.
What dumbfounded me was he was ok with it. I told him I didn’t want to put on his 4kg because of the weight gain many experience in the 12+months in maintenance. He agreed with me. What the??? Invasion of the body snatchers??? Totally opposite position from last month.
He was also ok with my stopping my multivitamins. Agreed with my thinking that is better to feel ok & eat then be nauseated & not eat. He’ll just monitor my bloods to ensure no problems which is what they do anyway.
      Not complaining.
