How Many Times a Day?

Recommended Posts

I was told to eat 5-6 small meals a day. My doctor said that I have to eat that often to increase my metabolism. I have stuck to it and so far it's working pretty well. Good luck!

I was told the same - only 3 meals and no Snacks.

I have Snacks if I'm hungry. I drink a v-8 or have a piece of low-cal cheese, pretzels, etc. I have trouble with fruit so I haven't done that much. If I'm hungry I eat something otherwise I will not make a good choice at the next meal!! :D

While on mushies, I was told 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day and if hungry then have 1/2 cup of yoghurt, pureed fruit etc. My dr told me that when I'm on solids, I would be eating 1 cup of food 3 times a day, around 1,000 cals a day. I can't imagine not having the odd snack but only time will tell.

That's definitely what I was doing before banding... my family always made fun of me because even after complaining I was full, I would be snacking on something new. My argument was, how else can I maintain a body like mine! :D

Thanks everyone!!! Looks like we all have to find our own way. I have a feeling that 3 meals and 1 snack (healthy) will work best for me. I now just have to wait and see.

I was told 3 meals no Snacks but I have been doing 5-6 small meals instead. My doc says whatever works for me is fine with him.

They told me the same, 3 meals with no Snacks. However I believe that they hope it's a deturant for grazing you know.

I do the 5-6 small meals a day. I'm only a month post op so I'm only able to get down 1/2 cup of food at a time. So I plan a lunch and just eat it in two phases. I'm hoping it keeps my metabolism higher.

On the days that I eat Snacks in between my meals I find that I feel hungrier and want to eat more so I tend to stick to 3 meals a day. This has been a big change for me compared with my pre-band style of maybe 1 main meal a day and lots and lots and lots of snacks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
