Hi everyone! I had my surgery on November 19 and have been doing well with following the food stages and losing weight. Between my pre-opt diet and the surgery I was down 29 lbs. I’m on stage 3 soft foods and within the last 2 days I have gone up a pound and half. Of course it’s upsetting but is this normal to fluctuate a little or am I doing something wrong?

Been there I had the same problem but I gained 3 lbs. My surgeon said my body is use to having only liquids that when I started to incorporate soft foods, my body went into shock but don’t worry you’ll lose it quickly!

It is normal for a lot of people to have a stall or gain a little weight as they progress through the post op food stages. It is also normal to experience stalls/small gains every now and then as you continue your weight over the coming months. Some women also experience hormonal gains just before their periods. These gains are usually quite temporary.

Here's my graph from the first year:

Here's mine from this year.

My updated chart below. @FluffyChix You seemed to slow down substantially once you hit 150 do you think that was because it was your goal weight?

I think it's because the last 10-20lbs is always the most difficult to lose. I also think that it was my first set point from high school and my body thought it needed to settle there and defend that new position.

I also know that it happened in the sophomore phase and this is the phase where we notoriously start living life again. So some of it could be that I slacked off in my choices with a greater frequency of "treat" meals when going out? And before, I cooked almost everything at home. So I think it's probably a combination of metabolic stuff + behavior.

Also, that chart doesn't look like it, but the line is actually down at the 130-135 level. It looks more like it's 140ish. Here's a close up of it for the last 90 days.

Set point is interesting. This weight was where I was from around 18-22.

I think after WLS, the body takes a minute to figure out that it can defend a lower set point. I was "stalled" out for weeks in the 146-155 range. And I thought, that I was at goal. And I was so sad. Right? Nothin I did could blast me out of it. I could for a day or two, then it would go back up.

Then it just like went "poof" and I was in a new decade. Then it started defending 135-140. And it was a true bi*ch! I even changed my goal weight so I could call goal cuz I was convinced I'd never hit my Goal #3. LOL. As soon as I did that my body dropped into the 130-135lb range and is now happily defending from about 131-135 very easily. LOL. And this is with me living life. M-F I'm all about TCB on plan, eating low and super dense nutrition. And F night, Sat, Sun I do what ever I want. And the Monday comes and it's back to TCB.

I could likely get to my top secret BDG Goal weight of 125 if I cut out the weekend shenanigans. But at this point, it's very easy to rationalize poor choices. Right?

So I wonder if you just hang tight, if that same thing isn't gonna happen to you? The only other option is to examine and tighten it up (your diet and exercise plan). But you're a big guy. So I'm betting your close to that last 20lbs thing.

Yep that all makes a lot of sense plus at 22BMI you dont have a lot left. Each pound does get more difficult to lose. For me at 33BMI I have a lot of room to lose still given my daily calorie intake.

Dunno dude. Cuz at 33BMI I was at a snails pace too.

It is so tough trying to know what to do. One thing that helped me no end was doing the IF. You should TOTALLY come join us over in the IF thread. I lost my last 40lbs because of adding the IF to my game. We've seen many people do exactly the same too!

Here it is. Start on page 1. TONS of great info and articles and vids. And it gets easier and easier every time you do it. It would really help cut you.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
