9 days post op - feeling good - but drinking too much???

Recommended Posts

I’m 9 days out and feel really good! Have been walking a little everyday since I’ve been home. I have been drinking Premier Protein shakes and am able to get all 11 oz in within 20 - is that bad? Too much?

I was like that as well and the PA at my surgeon's office said not to worry about. But if you're concerned, I'd just call them and ask.

I had my surgery on 11/13 and my Premier Protein drink is done in 20-30 minutes. I just like to get it over with - it is most important for me to get it down period. I will be glad when I get down to 1 a day and then none - which will be a while.

So long as you're drinking without discomfort, you're fine. Some people have it easy, others have to go extremely slowly due to swelling. You appear to be one of the lucky ones! (As was I)

Nope, you're fine. I too was able to get mine down in 20 mins at that time if I worked at it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
