My surgery date for the Rouen-Y Bypass is next Friday! Jan. 17th. It will be done in Cleveland Clinic by Dr. Aminian. I am 65 and this starts a new chapter in life. I've lost 34# to reach my goal weight. I'm so excited. However, having some trouble. I am one week into my Protein Shakes (800 cal) and Clear Liquids. I am so weak and shaky. Does anyone know if this just me having to adjust and it taking time? I'm afraid if I am feeling this way after surgery, I will fail. This is not a good feeling! I wont be able to exercise. What's your thoughts?

Hope fully your doctor has a nutritionist. I would call and explain. Maybe you need to be taking a Vitamin or something.

Never to late, congratulations graduate. Welcome to your class, how are you feeling?

I'll tell ya, the first couple days were NOT fun. Between the gas pains and the incessant hiccups (REALLY pulled at my internal stitch) I was uncomfortable. I woke up yesterday and felt like I had turned the corner. YAY! Energy level is still WAY below normal - which is expected - but my pain is minimal, gas pain is gone, and hiccups are almost gone and don't last more than a minute or two when they happen. Thanks for asking. Hope you're doing well also.

Is anyone else going to make homemade Bone Broth? I bought some packets of LonoLife chicken broth at Kroger last week and I tried one and it is very good, but pricey. I plan to throw some in my bag for the trip to Mexico. I'm planning to make some chicken and beef broth and freeze it for when I get home. I'm not sure how to freeze it yet, probably just in zip lock bags.

Glad to hear of your quick progress. I don't have my surgery until the 31st of this month. How's your liquid consumption and Protein going?

I plan on making a batch or two of broths, I prefer my own cooking. Also, I don't know if I will be able to stomach too much more store bought broth after my procedure, if that's my only option.

Has anyone started taking Biotin before their surgery to help lessen Hair loss? I read somewhere to start taking it a few weeks before surgery.

Yes, I have. I've been taking the hair, skin, nails one from Costco- they are gummies. I started maybe a month pre-surgery & am continuing to take them still (surgery 1/7/20). They go down easy as they are gummies and my stomach has accepted them well.

I had surgery on 1/7/20 - so close to yours- are you having more energy? I haven't had a problem with energy- just pain. I'm taking Tylenol and trying to walk a bit but still not leaving home. The car ride home was difficult and I'm not ready to get in the car again anytime soon. What drinks/foods are you enjoying at this point? sugar-free Jello & sugar-free popsicles are the best for me now. Also, the salty broth is tasting great. Be well.

Energy level starting coming up some today. I get out of the house to walk the dog around the neighborhood a few times each day - longest walk since the surgery was around 30 minutes. Most are 15 or so. I'm doing Jello, yogurt, pudding, and broth mostly, with some Protein Shakes too. And lots of hot tea - I need something besides cold foods all day. . .

Doing well on both. I've got a Fluid intake sheet I'm tracking ounces on to make sure I don't get dehydrated. The clinic sent me home with copies. The easiest thing I've done for tracking is buy some mini red solo cups (for shots I guess). They each hold 2 ounces, which gives me an amount to drink I can handle and track easily without any real effort.

Hi guys, 4 days post op and ready to join the land of the living again. I’ve been here scrolling a lot but haven’t posted since before surgery.
Pain has been minimal. Honestly, my IV site on my hand hurts worse than anything right now. I haven’t had the hiccups at all like another poster mentioned. I’m learning what’s too much, Ive thrown up several times after taking in too much at once. Today is the first day I’ve gotten anything besides Water down. I’ve gotten some tea down and a few ounces of chicken broth. Meeting my liquid intake has been difficult, but I’m on the right track today.
I’m on Clear Liquids until tomorrow and I go full liquids for another 5 days I think.
If y’all have any questions, I will be happy to answer them!

Hey surgery twin!! Its funny, today is the first day I've felt like posting here since surgery as well! Looks like we are on the same pace!! I've mainly been tolerating only Water and broths since I've gotten home, but today, like you, I've gotten some Protein Drink and Tomato Soup down. (Boy was I craving that Tomato Soup, let me tell you!). Pain isn't too bad, seems more internal than the actual incisions (I had a hernia fixed as well) but overall not unbearable. I've been taking pain killers as prescribed but will be done with them tomorrow at 10 am as ordered. Wondering though if anyone has experience taking 500mg Tylenol tablets? They seem so large but that is what I'm supposed to take after tomorrow. Anyway, glad you made it through! We have got this!! [emoji173]

Hi all! This is my first post although I’ve been looking around for awhile. My surgery is on the 14th. I have SO much nervous energy, but super excited!

Congratulations, are you prepared? Bags, packed, post-op supplies ready at the house, support team ready? You're going to be fine.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
