Mental Health Evaluation

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I am in the middle of getting my pre-requisites done, the biggest hang up so far is the psychiatric evaluation. How many visits has anyone had to go thru? The Dr. doing the evaluation wants 3. My first appointment was about 500 questions, literally and today was my second, but since his computer froze up they have to reschedule me and he's booking into January now. I dont think I should be penalized for there computer error. Frustrating, as that is my hang up now. :56_anguished:

That is disappointing to be put back like that. Can you ask to be on a waiting list for any appointment cancellations so you can hopefully get to see him before January?

The psych eval seems to be up to the psychiatrist. I have had three different psychiatrist evaluate me. One was way back in the 90's and he turned me down. Another was my regular psychiatrist and she was all for it. I am trying to get a revision so I went to my new psychiatrist and he was very blasé about. I would see if you can go to another psychiatrist to get your psych evala. I don't know if this rigorous is per your insurance or just his way of going about it.

Three visits?? That sounds excessive. Mine did it in one, and I had minimal testing to do. Mostly we sat and talked and he asked me questions to be sure I understood the gravity (ha, did you see what I did there?) of WLS.

Psych docs must be incredibly busy. The first one that I called was willing to file a claim on Medicare for my visit, but when I made the appointment in August she wasn't going to be able to see me until December, and since I'd be eligible for surgery in Nov I didn't want to wait that long. So I got on the internet and found one that only would take cash on the barrel head but could see me in two weeks, so I went with him. So, shop around and you might be able to find one that takes less visits for approval.

I only had to see the psych once. No written questions or tests, just a conversation. I was actually very impressed with entire experience. I thought it would just be to make sure I wasn't crazy (and I must be a little crazy to have such a bad relationship with food), but she gave me lots of great information about the surgery, recovery, Vitamins, etc. She was great!

If you can get in with another psych, I think it's worth a try!!

You still see dead people like me?

I found it to be a silly wasted of time, although I paid cash so mine was just a formality. I had to get fully undressed and lay on the couch. Then the hot younger doctor evaluated me. Not sure why she dimmed the lights and played music, but it had a happy ending

Ok anyone believe that and you have overdosed on Protein -

I am a little nuts too, but didn't have to do any psych evaluation because I was a revision with many repairs to make. If they only knew..... 🤪

I understand the concept behind it, but this guy was seriously trying to dig into my past and see when any anxiety started. I already have a

He was really intense too. Like digging in my past for stuff. It was not comfortable. I have 2 new drs. to check into. Hoping one of them is a tad lighter.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
