Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 14th and as each day passes I get more and more hungry. Is this normal and what are some suggestions to fight this. When are you supposed to start to feel full and not want to eat.

Hi there!

My doctor advised taking in 90 grams of Protein per day in three "meals." In between meals, I sipped on Water to make sure I drank at least 64 ounces per day.

The Protein will make you feel full longer. Make sure you don't drink and eat at the same time or you won't feel full for as long.

You will most likely continue to feel hungry until your first fill. This is normal once the swelling in your stomach goes down. Let the battle with head hunger begin!!!! LOL!

Hang in there--this period you're in right now is probably the toughest part of the banding process! You can do it!

You'll feel more and more hungry as the swelling goes down - that's normal. Just continue to eat healthy with reasonable portions and get your Protein in! The lack of hunger won't kick in until you have GOOD restriction, which could take several fills.

I have had only 1 fill, I fill no restriction until I have eaten way more then I should have. I try to control my cals myself. I know I need to drink more Water, eat more Protein, any other suggestions?? I was told that sometimes it can take up to the 4th fill to really have restriction.

Dolfan13,

You should still be in your post-op diet, which is likely to be only fluids (not sure if you are clear or full liquid because all Dr.'s are different). If you are on full liquids, I found that Tomato Soup really helped to make me feel full and addressed my hunger. There are some Campbell's select Soups such as butternut squash or red peppers and black been, that again are full liquids (no chucks) that have been a God-send. Also, a really great Protein drink really helps me feel full for a long while.

If you are on clears, I don't know what to say. I was on clears for 6 days and it was rough from a mental perspective, physically I wasn't really feeling it because of the swelling.

The first week or so I was so pysch'd because I really wasn't hungry. After 7 to 9 days once the swelling went down, I was like, darn, I am really starting to get hungry, what the heck?!

Not sure if this is helpful. Let us know where you are and what your post-op diet is and more advice is likely to pour in.

Good luck...

yeah, I didn't even start the "weight Loss" phase until my first fill. Some of us even gain a pound or two on the Post-Op soft diet. DON"T WORRY! You will feel like you did immediately post-op as soon as you start getting fills. I freeked out about this too. You would think they would tell us to expect this. Sheesh.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
