Looking for guidance & support.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was sleeved 02/2018. I lost all my weight and hovered around 172 for a few months. I had a death in the family and I fell into some really bad old habits. I take full responsibility for my actions. I have gained 24 lbs since my lowest weight of 168. I got on the scale this morning at 192. I stopped exercising, I have been eating horribly, and it seems with certain foods and at certain times it feels like I can eat a full meal.

I remember in the beginning when four ounces was a lot. I can eat way more then that I have been over the past few months. Tomorrow I am looking to change things around and go back to the basics. Unfortunately I am not on good terms with my surgical team or nutritionist. Although I had an amazing surgeon, I was double billed for the surgery a year after I had it and my insurance wouldn't pay. They told me a year later a second surgeon was present in my surgery yet refuse to release my medical records.

Has anyone successfully lost weight after gaining some back after being sleeved? How do I know if I stretched my sleeve? I am determined to drop 17-20 lbs to get back down to weight that I was. I just need some guidance and support. Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry to hear your struggling. I know from experience how life can throw you curve balls and before you know it, you find yourself picking up bad habits do the detriment of your health.

First, you've recognized the problem. That's a GOOD thing! Now, get back on the program. Log your food. Get your Water in. Start exercising, even if it's just walking.

I'm only a couple of months after you in terms of surgical dates. I know that I can eat more than 4 ounces sometimes. It depends on the time of day and what I'm eating. I'm told that it's normal to be able to eat more over time. I'd estimate that at most, I can eat 1 cup. I find this OK and I'm not concerned that I've stretched my sleeve.

I no longer have a relationship with my surgeon. It wasn't bad blood or anything, I am no longer in the state where I had my surgery. So, my primary doctor monitors my labs and I have a GI doc that helps me with anything sleeve related.

If you're truly worried you've stretched your sleeve or if you feel you need the collaboration of a bariatric team, I think I'd start with my primary doc. Sometimes surgeons are unwilling to take on a case that someone else started, something about "cleaning up someone else's mess." (or so I'm told-I'm a nurse case manager and have LOTS of experience with that) So, a self-referral may not be effective. Use the network you have to get in the door: your other doctors.

Good luck! You got this!

How can a bowel movement make me lose almost 4 pounds? How much poo am I full of?

I haven't pooped in a weed and I'd love a 4 pound poo right now lol

Lol, yeah, I've been known to drop 3-ish lbs after a good (and long awaited) poop.

.....or even after a moderate to severe dumping episode. yikes.

I met with my surgeon on Friday.. I've completed all my tests and all my nutrition meetings as well as meeting the weight loss requirements for my insurance. We are officially submitting to insurance for approval and I was given a surgery date of January 16th 2020 (13 days before my birthday!) Fingers crossed all goes through

Ok, now im getting old...my body gets me up at my normal 5am dog walk even when it's the weekend, vacation, and most importantly when I'm sick. So now that I have more energy, my body wants to make sure I suffer even longer during the day when I have a cold! Damn being healthy again! (:D)
