Pre workout: (90 min run/945 calories burned)

  • ½ Cinnamon bagel
  • 2 cups of coffee

OK. I've always wondered about "pre-workout" meals. I run in the mornings, but I do it on an empty stomach (I don't even have my coffee or broth until after the workout).

How much time do you wait after eating before you actually start the run?

For an hour run. I can eat a banana 30 minutes before or run fasted. Depends on the day.

Bagels could be the cause of my low blood sugar. *laughing* It was the only carb in the house. This is not a normal day of food for me.

Anything over a 10K, I carb load for a few days before. Mainly sweet potatoes. (only carb that doesn’t bloat me /or drops my blood sugars.) Race day I run fasted/no food. I use the glycogen stores of my carb load to fuel my race. I use powdered carbs added to my water/hydration vest. Its been trial and error to find what works with my stomach.

I’m so impressed with you runners, I have never understood the drive for that. My oldest son started running this year and is doing a half marathon in a week.

Does anyone else get stuck in a rut? I tend to eat 1 thing a lot for awhile. It is usually a light version of an unhealthy thing. I have homemade-ish pizza about 4 meals a week now. I’ve moved on from tacos for now! Here is my pizza breakdown. It takes a little effort but it’s worth it for me.

Cheeseburgh, I now want a taco for lunch, lol. The only time I get in a rut with a particular food is when I have made too much and have leftovers for days. I like pretty much everything and I don't have issues with any foods and never did after surgery.

Now that I am actually running (instead of alternating kms of running and walking) I rarely go over the 1 hour mark. I'm thinking next spring (when it gets warmer again) I'm going to try to go for longer, and will likely need something in my stomach for fuel. We'll see.

It's funny because I never thought in a gazillion years I would ever call myself a runner. I was the epitome of a couch potato before. I am planning on registering for a mini-triathalon for July next year, and am focusing on getting my swimming up to snuff over the winter. Me, in a triathalon??!? Ca-Ray-ZY.

I think your pizza sounds yum...pretty good for 345 cals.

I tend to eat the same thing for days as well (read: salad). Something new will go into the fridge or pantry and I'll just keep eating it until it's gone...which often takes a while.

I make super low calorie ones with 96% lean ground beef. I use a dry spice mix which pretty much has zero calories, pico de Gallo, lettuce and 2 crunchy tortilla shells. Skip the shells add veggies if you avoid carbs or processed food.

4oz ground beef 120

2 taco shells (old El Paso) 100

other stuff total of 25 calories. Total 265

I do usually make my own but I ended up running to taco bell and having a cheese doritos locos taco supreme and 1/2. 285 calories total.

Arg..It was raining here in my neck of the woods so the trick or treaters were very few and and even further between. Which means our Halloween bowl of fun-size Snickers is still very much in tact. Surprisingly, I haven't eaten one....YET (I opted for some raspberry mint sorbet Mr. brought home instead). I do see some serious Snickers-snacking in my very near future though.... #yum

...managed to stay away from the Halloween candy...for now. I'm coming after you soon fun-size Snickers...Bwha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

9:00am - chicken brotth

11:00am - salad greens + olive oil + almonds + pumpkin seeds + 3/4 cup of beef stew (minus the potatoes)

5:00pm - salad greens + olive oil + cucumber + cheddar cheese + 3/4 cup of beef stew (minus the potatoes)

7:30pm - 3-4 sips of BFF's vodka ceasar (I logged it in MFP as 1/4 cup) + 3 bites of BFF's poutine (logged in MFP at 1/4 a St. Louis Wings Poutine)

10:00pm - the Kid's leftover "Lunchables" snack pack (4 crackers, 4 turkey slices, 4 cheese slices...she ate the KitKat earlier...go figure) + 1 tbsp Peanut Butter + 2 squares dark chocolate + 1/3 cup raspberry lime sorbet.

Totals: 1435 cals - 74g* Protein - 83g* NET carbs - 62g* fat

* Note the macros are wholly inaccurate for this entry as the 7:30pm wings poutine & the 10pm leftover "Lunchables" only had calorie counts in MFP, and no macro breakdowns (and there is NO WAY these things had zero carbs!) *

Today, Sat, Nov. 2
Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 113.7 lbs

...had coffee with the BFF tonite and finally got my hands on some Halloween candy from HER leftover pile (since my own household stash mysteriously disappeared yesterday - I know who you are Mr.!) I'm surprised I haven't dumped, though I do feel moderately ick at the moment. My stomach is doing that gurgly lactose-intolerant rumbling thing, so I know I'm going to have a visit from the poop-fairy soon. Which I actually don't mind as I've been waiting for her for 3 days now...

11:00am - coffee w/ Stevia

12:30pm - salad greens + pumpkin seeds + almonds + can of smoked oysters w/ seafood sauce + 1/4 cup of Campbell's Chunky Clam Chowder (minus the potatoes)

2:00pm - 1/2 cup mixed nuts + turkey Jerky + 1 Keto Snaps Choco-Coconut-Fat-Bomb

5:30pm - salad greens + olive oil + carrots + almonds + can of smoked oysters w/ seafood sauce + turkey jerky + 1/3 cup Raspberry Lime sorbet

10:30 - Starbucks Grande Americano Misto w/ Soy + 4 fun-size Reese's Peanut Butter cups + 1 fun-size Oh Henry + 1/8 moon cake

Totals: 2306 cals - 104g Protein - 141g NET carbs - 133g fat

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
