Females over 40, how "fast' did you lose with RNY?

Recommended Posts

Definitely interested in this thread. My rny is next week and I've also wondered about how fast you lose. I started at 330 (highest was 376 years ago) three weeks ago. I'm at 310 now so 20 lbs down on liquid diet. I'm also 42 and about 5'3" tall. I worry about loose skin simply because I already have some. But I worry more about not ever being able to do things I want to do.

Hi! I am a 54 year old female and I had my bypass in April of 2019. I started at 224 and I weighed 150 by October. I’m down to 141 now because I increased calorie intake and weight loss slowed down. Which in fact I like, it’s giving my brain time to “catch up” to my weight loss. Good luck on your journey!

Hi! I’m 46, female and 5’ 4”. Like the OP, I also have PCOS.
RNY Bypass Surgery: 4/12/19
Highest weight: 278
Surgery weight: 263
Current weight: 168
Goal weight: 135 but I’d be pretty happy with 145.

Best of luck with your surgery. My only regret these days is that I wish that I would have done this sooner!

Great topic-thanks! I go in on 2/14/20 for my Bypass and heading to Mexico-Dr Juan Lopez Corvala. I am a little nervous but mostly excited. I am starting about 298 and 5"5.5 so I am anxious to see some of this weight off before I turn 50 in August. Keep the comments coming-great motivation for us!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
