Hi All,
So this is sort of a weird question, but did anyone else read their operation report and know how much of their jejunum was bypassed? When I spoke with my surgeon at my 3 week post op appointment, he mentioned that he bypassed “a bit more” of the jejunum than average, because he also makes the pouch a little bit larger “to improve quality of life.” From what I understand my pouch is about the size of a small tangerine/golf ball and in reading the op report it looks like most of my jejunum is bypassed. Which does not bother me in the least. I’m actually pleased with that surgical approach and I also realize that I’ll have to be extra diligent with taking my Vitamins.
When I researched, it looked like the average is about 35-45cm bypassed.

Sorry for such a technical post. I’m a former nurse and I still love researching and reading medical info.

I asked My surgeon about length he said it's usually between 100-200cm that might be the length of the new common channel I'm not sure of all the technical

Thanks for the reply Mikeyy. Yeah I’m just a medical nerd and I found it interesting that he bypassed so much of the jejunum.

That's really interesting. It's amazing how every doctor has their own way of doing things. I'm not scheduled for surgery until 10/24, but I might have to ask my doctor what the standard is for his patients!

Just to clarify my surgeon said he does 120cm bypass others do 100cm it all depends on the surgeon

My bypass is 130 (cm ?) in length (but I'm a conversion from VSG)

Yeah I don't get the difference in length? I think it means more or less Malabsorption issues?

From what I’ve read, you’re right Mikeyy. It creates a short common channel, which from my understanding is the section of intestine that the gastric fluids get added and the food broken down.

I got my surgical report and I see it says “100 cm distal from the gastrojejunostomy a side to side gastrojejunostomy was created between the binary pancreatic limb and alimentary limb.”

also

”the stomach is transacted vertically creating a gastric pouch which is approximately 30 cc in diameter.”

it says a lot of other information but I haven’t had opportunity to truly read it. Even though I am interested in these things as you are. I actually didn’t get the actual operative report until recently.
