Hi Everyone,

I had my surgery Oct 23rd. I am a month out today. My first fill is on Dec. 5th. But until them I was wondering, if any of your doctors let you know when you could start to put things on your scars to help them go away (or get lighter). Any feedback is appreciated.

You can start putting things on your scars as soon as they are healed. I message a silicone based ung on my scars 1-2 x day and use a silicone scar bandaid. The bandaid is probably not necessary, but I want the maximum treatment and I purchased them before surgery, so I'm not going to waste them. I discovered the gel after surgery and decided to use it as well. I also have vit e oil that I put message into the scars at bedtime. They are really starting to fade and my port scar is only barely raised. I expect it to continue to improve. I must say, I am very pleased with their progress.

Since we are on the subject of scars, what did your surgeon use to close up your incisions? Our doctor used glue, and I'm really impressed with the small amount of scarring. Only problem was that I had a reaction to the glue the first couple of days and thought I was developing a raging infection until I realized the problem was "only" a skin reaction. I had a bad reaction last year to Catapres Patches, so I did figure it out pretty quickly.

I am not sure what my doc used. No staples, or anything that needed to be removed. My scars healed quite nicely. All the scabs have fallen off (sorry didn't mean to be gross). They are just pink now. So I am definitely ready to get these suckers to fade. You know what I forgot to mention that sucked, was the Heparin shots. I don't know if you guys had to do it, but that left me bruised. Not so much the ones I did at home, but the ones they did in the hospital overnight. I think the needle they used was too big. But I am happy those are starting to fade. Thanks for the feedback.

The brands I use: the silicone gel is called New Skin scar therapy and the bandaids are Polysporin scar solution.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
