Hungry after gastric sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Acid mimics hunger pains and so does thirst after surgery for VSG patients . Try a tums or Water before turning to food. I still do this at 2 years out.

I still feel hungry sometimes. My surgeon tells me it's normal. It's a very different type of hunger but hunger for sure. Usually it happens when I go to long without eating (which happens WAY easier now)!

I had a burger just the meat last week. I still weigh my meat and eat no more than 3 oz and usually less. I like tuna, chicken, salmon, and the burger was a real treat. Now if my meat looks dry I put cold-pressed olive oil on it to make it moist. The olive oil also increases the good cholesterol. I also eat cottage cheese for Protein. I stayed on the soft diet for about 6 weeks and I'm slowly "testing" meats one at a time. I also purchased from Amazon children's stainless flatware so my bites are always small. I've not had an issue so far and everything I've eaten has done well.

I was the same way after my surgery in July. I was hungry it was not head hunger at all its the burning sensation of your stomach telling you its time to eat and its empty. I can tell you that it never went away and I'm hungry all the time. But there is an upside to being hungry you won't feel like you're force feeding yourself like most people here do because they're not hungry. My bestfriend is like that she had the surgery a month after me and she's never hungry and tells me she hates eating because she feels like she has to force herself to eat and it makes her nauseous.

We are suppose to eat 5-6 meals a day and with hunger its an easier task then having to force it. So I'm kinda glad I feel hungry. Before my surgery I was the opposite and was never hungry and would probably eat like 2 meals a day. So when i seen i would have to eat 5-6meals a day I was like oh gosh how am I going to do that i barely want to eat now. But after the surgery being hungry made it so much easier to accomplish that and get in my Protein.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
