So I got my 3 month lab results today and my cholesterol is elevated! The doc said that it could be because of rapid weight loss..has anyone expirenced this?

I got my 6 month labs and my slightly elevated cholesterol and LDL were still the same! But my HDL was up to 70 and triglycerides down from 140 to just 35!!!! I read that a lot of rapid weight loss can result in elevated cholesterol but that it should settle down once the body settles down.

it does weird stuff to your liver values, too (ALT and AST). I had mine tested for some other reason, and they were really high. My doctor said rapid weight loss is really hard on your liver, thus, you get some crazy readings. Mine were back to normal once I was about 18 months out.

Mine went down. Way down. Drastically better and improved.

I feel like it is not feasible, with the small amount that I am able to consume in addition to making good food choices.

Mine went down at my 6 month labs, but my "good" cholesterol also went way down so I added in an Omega-3 supplement. Maybe my 12 mos. will improve.

10 months out. My total cholesterol and LDL are both up. But that's likely because I've been having a lot of problems with my stomach, so the only things I can reliably eat without pain are soft foods like yogurt/milk/cheese. So I eat a lot of that, which is likely killing my cholesterol .

Okay so I’m about to have labs drawn next week for my 6 month PO.

My lipid panel on my 3 month was horrendous, but I had lost over 50 pounds so it definitely was a contributor.
Surgeon and I discussed me seeing my PCP if this go round of labs is still elevated (or God forbid, worse)

I probably won’t know anything for 2-3 weeks, but I’ll try my best to remember to post an update here

Since your cholesterol is elevated is your doctor having you take medication? Just curious because that is one of my goals is to get off most of my medication.

No meds, the doc is going to monitor me for the next couple months to figure out if it is actually related to weight loss or truly higher cholesterol. I have no family history of it nor have I ever had it myself.

Most docs recommend waiting it out a few months past the rapid weight-loss phase.
Our labs aren’t going to normalize until about a year out or longer

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
