Recommended Posts

Hello all, this is my first post, had surgery for the sleeve and hiatil hernia Thursday morning and arrived home Friday night around 10pm. Felt horrible Sat and Sun, bounced back in Monday. Had post up visit Tues and was moved to stage 2. Feeling very good now, just want to know is anyone else dreaming of pizza, cheeseburgers, Mac n cheese, etc.....? I thought the surgery was supposed to suppress the grehlin ????

Dreaming of food sounds more like head hunger than physical hunger.

Hunger pains are very likely to be stomach acid

That's head hunger, not physical hunger. You have to deal with it because it can be as bad as or worse than physical hunger and cause you to eat bad things.

oh it does but nothing suppress's the human mind. Head hunger is just as real to you as anything else in your life and it can drive you nuts if you let it.

you really have to work to occupy your mind with things that take a lot of concentration. take up a new hobby, get lost in a book or do crossword puzzles or my favor Sudoku's.

just try to distract yourself

avoid the idiot box (tv) for awhile. way to much hard sell.

good luck

THANK YOU all so much for the support, I feel better knowing I am not the only one and also all the advice. Yes, my mission will be to get it out of my head. I agree TV is my worst enemy, I never ever realized that 99.9 percent of commercials were about food ! At this time last week I was in the hospital feeling like hell, I can't believe what a difference a week makes. I am feeling great, now I just have to wrestle that demon you all call head hunger.

Curiously enough, for the last two days, both head and physical hunger has decreased dramatically! So it definitely gets better. I'm not sure what to make of the difference [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]. I hope it stays this way for a while because it feels great! I have to make myself get to 500 Cals per day.
I'm also exactly 7 days post OP.

Oh yes, and the burger commercials are the worst. The head hunger is awful about week 2 and you have a stall in weight loss week 3-4. I was really not happy that my husband could eat the first couple of weeks but once I moved to soft foods I don't feel like throwing his food out the window. The Outlast no sugar added pop cycles were my savior. I'm almost done with week 3 and have 2 more weeks of soft foods only.

would you believe that you have cleared the carb/sugar addiction and your body has fat adapted and switched to burning fat for fuel instead of expecting a new dose of sugar/carbs every 3 hrs as before.

amazing isn't it

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
